i've been offered a mk1 GTI for 150, thats been stood for 4 years . unlike you boys tho i ain't got the skills to sort it

4 years is nowt.

made a start jet-washing the wheel wells tonight.......no were near as much mud in them as i was expecting

only got the drivers side wells done tonight

got the dash & soundproofing out

custom lightweight doorcards to come.......passenger side card is still on cos i can't get the winder off, will have to drill the top of the screw off

lights off for cleaning

i forgot about the work our Matt did on the car for me last night

he made up a lockset for me.......1 key fits all

he dug through all the bits we have at my house, found a lot of the bits we will need

& he found/fitted a good set of front door window rubbers

Looks like a good project just spotted this. And as other people have said i am 100% with keeping that the same colour. What other plans have you got for it? GTI lump or just keep it slow and low?

main plan is......

engine -

1.4 ABD / GT motor........already have the motor in my Polo, it ran 16.4 quarter mile the other week (0.2 of a second quicker than my mates 129bhp mk1 Golf GTI)

so that motor in this car maybe quicker........as i'm planning on this car been lighter than my Polo

saves moving the drivers side mount aswell if i use a small block motor

suspension -

GTI anti-roll bars (1.1 & 1.3's don't come with anti-roll bars at all)........Eibach bars at a later date

GTI front brakes.......239mm cos i want to run 13" wheels

interior -

Standard "ish" dash & 2 bucket seats..........not much else

outside -

standard, apart from a GTI front spoiler that i'm having a cold air feed scoop to the airbox plastic welded into it

only the bits of the bodywork that need paint due to MOT repairs is to be painted for now.........getting our Matt to do a full respray on it when summer comes

once you see how quickly this gets done..........you'll be getting that mk1

no pic's from today..........been round scrapyard looking for suitable airbox's and washer bottles

could find anything of any use :(

then we got on with stripping a mk3 Polo our Matt has at his unit that we're using as a donor for some of the fuel injection & wiring parts, also using the engine/interior to put my Orange Polo back to standard so i can sell it to fund this project

the plan we had for converting the car to fuel injection was to chop a Polo GT engine bay wiring loom down to just the bits needed for the engine & then splice this into the current mk1 Golf loom

Today we desided not to do this

we thought it would be easier to fit a full wiring loom & fusebox from a mk3 Polo

but Matt was talking to Spen (redsquares dad) and he's recomended we fit a mk2 Polo interior loom & fusebox with a mk3 GT engine bay loom

This way all the mk1 Golf dash switches & stalks will work (with the mk2 Polo wiring)[/color]

so our Matt's off to scrapyard in the morning to get the bit's we need off a squareback mk2 Polo thats in there

had Matt doing wiring tonight........he had got his head round what was planned better than me

he removed the engine bay, dash, most of the interior loom........& the fusebox

the only mk1 Golf wiring thats left is rear light, no. plate lights, wash/wipe & heated screen

fusebox is mk3 Polo......as is almost all of the interior loom

dash loom is mk2 Polo.......so that mk1 Golf switch gear plugs in

engine bay loom will be mk3 Polo GT

bit of a list of jobs to do

got some of the following parts on order

full poly bush set

G-Max front shocks.......to go with the Jamex rears & -60mm springs i already have

front & rear wheel bearings

front top mounts & ball joints........wishbones look OK, may get Matt to shotblast & paint them

using the front brakes off the Orange Polo.......re-building the contents of the rear drums

new brake pipe/flexi's

need a mk2 Polo radiator........ordering one tomorrow

ain't touch the car last night or tonight

got a load of bits off Ed (Superted)........main useful bits are rear beam & front wishbone/ARB mounts

going to clean them up and paint them black......idea is if i keep thing clean & tidy the car will be nicer to work on

still need to source a front ARB........sold the one i had to Devo age's ago

poly bushes arrived & i found the stainless steel rear ARB clamps i bought ages ago.........these are easier to fit than the standard VW one's

front shocks should arrive tomorrow.........still got to get new front top mounts & ball joints, as well as new nuts/bolts

...then got onto the engine bay.....only had time to pull the motor out

Use a Scirocco washer bottle. It mounts on the inner wing behind the battery using the mysterious bracket that's there. There is even a connector just below it for the pump with an extension loom to the normal washer bottle position. The cars with headlamp wash wipe had a huge washer bottle mounted in this position. I've got this and used the normal position to mount a fuel filter and my spotlamp relays.

As regards the wiring, it's only 6 wires to convert and they all plug into the standard loom. Looks like a lot of hard work to replace the lot. It only took me an hour to get mine working.

Great to see cars like this brought back from the grave.Bits of it look no bad :-)

It's amazing how the same models have completely different types of rot. Depends on life abuse.

I got this for £150 Feeling quite good about it now. It was in a garden in the next village which is easier than a drive from cornwall :-D

Made no updates for a while…….been getting the Orange Polo ready for selling

Managed to do a few bits and pieces though

Got myself a GTI rear beam, going to clean it up and spray it black

Cut through the clamps for the ARB, there a pain in the bum……I’ve got some custom made stainless steel clamps to replace them, may even buy a set of Eibach ARB’s instead of using standard GTI bars

Rear beam bush bracket thingies…….going to clean them up and fit poly bushes in them

Rebuilding the front brakes…..they have been on 2 of my cars over the past 7 years or so, all I have ever done to them is paint them orange & then red

There now’t special…..calipers are mk2 Scirocco, carriers are mk2 Golf……this gives better clearance for my ATS Classic’s (Manta rims)

Fitting new “Goodridge” style flexi hoses too

Disks & pads will go again……..enough meat left in them for another track day
