does anyone know how quinn direct will react to a 1.6 16v gti conversion on my 1.4 8v?

also what else is invold in an engine conversion. such as dvla fees? and how much

You will pay more road tax by doing that conversion. It won't cost you anything to notify the DVLA. Just fill in the new engine capacity and engine number boxes on the blue part of your V5 log book and post it off. I have always notified my conversions, simply because i don't want the insurance companies to have a get out clause in the event of a claim.

Yes, depending on which insurance company though. They tend to look at a conversion as not designed for that particular shell/setup, so add a bit extra on.

it completely depends on the insurance company plus about a million other factors they'll take into account. the only way to find out is to phone them up. sometimes it's more than the original car the engine came from, sometimes it's the same, sometimes it's less.

when getting an online quote with Elephant, under the modifications list. i can choose either "engine-standard replacement" or "engine-non standard".

am i right in thinkin that the 1.6 gti engine is standard on a polo?

You would choose 'Engine non-standard' as whilst that engine is standard in the Polo GTi and is a Polo lump, it's not standard for a Mark4 Polo available in the UK market (there was a Mark4 GTi available on the continent).

mines a coversion (1.0 to 1.3 GT). I insure it as a GT to be on the safe side of insurance matters and just gotta inform the DVLA. As for emissions, i'm not sure either but would be very interested to know this for when my MOT expires

got to take into account that the car wasnt designed for that engine!!!!

by that i mean

1 - brake setup, the car it was meant for will have better brakes

2 - suspension, to take the extra weight and braking forces

then you look into who did the conversion - if it isnt a registered garage - then they might say no! however the getaround to this is to have your car SVA tested by a vehicle inspectorate. then the insurance can say - SOD ALL! or just refuse coz there gay and want to eat more biscuits.

i foned up quinn, told them i want to put a 1.6 engine from another polo. they just said there would be a few hundred increase and i will need to get an engineers report/mot test after the conversion.
