"URGENT" Car cut out !!

Featured Replies

Right been having a slight prolem mith my mk3 NZ. Every so often it will spluter and half die for a split second whislt driving, doesnt matter on the revs or speeed, does it when it likes. But today my dad to my car to the garage for some brake work while i was at work and he told me, when he got on to a roundabout it cut out completely, and woulnt not start, he had to get out and push it off on to a side road, then a few mintes later it started.

so could it be

a) A fuel pump on its wa out

b) coil on its way out.

its had new plugs, leads and fuel filter and was having the problem before i changed these

and help will be great

you could try the rotor arm and dizzy cap, i had a very similar problem not so long ago and i changed both of these and the problem hasn't come back.

got them both from GSF for under a tenner so even if it isnt that its a rather cheap thing to check first as last anyway.

Hmmm.. I'd say either coil or hall sender on the dizzy.

Have the rev counter gone crazy and not matched the engine revs? If so. Its deffinatly the hall sender!

i changed the dizzy plugs rotor arm etc a few months ago.

I havnt got a rev counter so maybe its not the hall sender???

COuld it also be the earth straps?? i might give them a good clean/ shine up on the weekend.

any one at all

?

Brake servo vacuum hose? Possibly blue temp sender..

Sounds like what happened to my car when my fuel pump went.

Does you car have a mechanical fuel pump or electric?

My g40 started doing this about 6 months ago and then it cleared up and only showed it face after about 30-40 miles of driving. The it caughed and died once. left it at the side of the road for a while checking loads of things. couldnt find anything wrong. after 45 minutes scratching my head. got back in the car and it started!

Then on the way to the poloshow it left me stranded again! looks like its the hall sender in the dizzy! just bought a new one - hope it solves the problem. I'll let you know!

hi sorry its not a helpfull reply.

i am having exactly the same problem with mine every so often under any conditions it will just cut out, sometimes it will start up straight away again othertimes it will be after 10-15 mins..

it hasent done it with anyone else in the car tho!!

if you find out the problem i would much appreciate it if you cold message me and help[ me as well lol thanks

right, i'll tell you what i did to have a go a stoping the problem.

I clean the earth lead connection on all three under the bonnet, (the one on the left of the enigne block the one on the coil and the one on the dizzy cap shrode thjing) and i sprayed some of that stuff that stops dampness on the leads and dizzy cap.

And so far so good aint cut out on me yet and doesnt die for a split second.

so, i have HOPEFULLY cured it.

bump for this, having same probs.

the list to try

fuel filter

hall sender (but I've got no rev counter ?)

earths ??anymore cheap ones ?
