I've just renewed the insurance on my Passat and noticed that they did cover for 2 cars on one policy so I asked for a quote including the G40.

After spending 30 minutes on the phone trying to explain the mods to the clueless woman in the call centre I was told that they couldn't insure the G40. I was given no reason as to why but whilst being questioned I was asked if the mods had been done by a garage to which I answered no, a while later I started wondering if this was the reason for not quoting. The insurer was Admiral.

Has anybody else been refused a quote which could have been down to diy work?

sounds like a fair enough comment to me! there are a lot of people out there who shouldnt be allowed to mess with cars, especially fast ones! mainstream insurance companies often dont want to touch 'specials' cause its just more hassle.

not sayin you shouldnt hold a spanner like, but I'm sure you have seen some peoples idea of 'DIY'

i have multicar with admiral too, when i told them about my badgeless grille they asked me whether it had been fitted by a garage. i told them i hadn't a clue because it was on it when i bought the car and that yes it looked like it was and they insured me.

The thing is though that if a garage does it the garage is much more likely to have done a Legal job, like if you have replaced the light's they will probably adjust the new ones to meet requirements, but at home most people lap it in and think right lets go
