what size wellers and tires were you running?

looks lush!

what springs and shocks were you running on the GT? did it still scrape those wheels are well wide!!

the GT was on wellers 13x7 et3 with 195/45/13 tyres. suspension was spax adjustable damping shocks with -70mm springs. Rubbed a bit but not too much...

I can vouch for the fact that it looked like a f*ckin beast on the road

Got a couple of new pics to add now. Shows the new exhaust. Much better than that huge thing that was on it before! Also got a boost gauge and air fuel ratio gauge fitted now but no pics yet. Anyway heres the pics after a quick clean last weekend

On Saturday, my mate and I are gonna be changin the oil and filter and upgrading to a 22mm master cylinder. Also got some audioscape doorpods on the way to me so they'll be going in this weekend too.

Looking awesome Jake, you thought about changing the colour of the wheels? Maybe grey or black?

Yeah I was thinking maybe next winter get them refurbed in some sort of grey. Not sure yet. Wouldn't mind some new wheels for the summer but respray is first on the list! Saving now to hopefully get it done April time as the cars suffering from some pretty bad lacquer peel!

Hi guys, got a bit of an update....

I've had a couple of problems with the alternator over the last couple of weeks so I took an old one to get repaired. At the beginning of the week, I started to strip the charger and that out to change the alternator. But as I was there and everythin was out, I decided to do a little tidying up. I've also got a GED front lower brace which I painted up and fitted too.

Anyway, firstly I've got a couple of pics to show how it was looking once I took the bits out. As you can see the engine looks pretty scabby!

Now here's some pics of some of the bits I did

Took off the engine mount and charger mount, rubbed them down and painted them black

I also took off the fan cover, rubbed that down and gave it a paint with some satin black

I then decided to give the block and gearbox a coat of black hammerite to tidy it up. So wire brushed it all down, covered it in degreaser and scrubbed with a toothbrush! I then cleaned all that off left it dry then painted it. Heres the results, not too bad I dont think

So what do you think?

Next I gotta get the rocker cover and throttle body painted up. I may get them polished if I can afford it or may just spray them satin black for now. I also wouldnt mind gettin some new loom tape, ripping off all the old shit and re-taping it all nice and fresh.

Looking to book the car in for a repsray within the next few weeks too! Its havin 2 new wings, front panel which has the bonnet catch on, and the panel behind the front bumper too. Ideally it could do with having the engine bay painted too but it wont be done this time unfortunately. I've also got some german plates ready to go on when its been painted.

Another little update. Went over to see Steve today. He polishes things for a living (APS polishing). He does a real good job. But he told me today I could do my own work cos he's busy haha. So I thought I'd polish the top of my throttle body. Anyway heres a couple of pics:

Before anyone says, I know I gotta do the bottom part. I'll be doing this in the next couple of weeks but I think I'm just gonna paint it satin black.

I really like that. I was tempted to polish that part too, I think inlet parts suit being polished....implies good flow/power/cleanliness...even if only on an aesthetic level.

some nice work going on. you reminded me, i want a fresher T piece bracket for the charger mount as mine is corroded loads???!!! I'm not a fan of hamerite if I'm honest but overall the engine looks really good with it.

its too far gone its heavily corroded for some reason. polished rocker covers look good, well i like mine anyway, I've been thinking of reverting back to original though.

I love the detailing on the face with the VW sign and the strips but cos I've done the boost return mod, the holes are pretty annoying. I was thinking of polished with the inserts black and then couldn't decide whether to do the sides where the holes are black or polished...

How did you polish your throttle body?

used the sanding mouse and did it all in 80, 120 and 240 grit. Did all the awkward edges by hand. Then polished it on steves polishing wheel.

Are you happy with your raceland manifold ?

Easy to fit ?

Not too noisy (like OEM) ?

I'm pretty sure its raceland....off philJ on here. My whole setup is pretty loud from having the 4 branch, no cat and no mid box so cant really say. And fitting wasn't too bad, you just gotta grind some off the engine mount to make it fit. Its pretty tight. Plus the bore isn't that big. In the future, I may upgrade to one of the ones pitstop used to do, which polo-PP are selling now.

Hi all....big update!!

As some of you may know, I've had the G resprayed. I didnt get as many photos as I'd of hoped but heres a few.

I started stripping the car down, took everything off. Changed the front slam panel, panel behind the front bumper and the front wings. All panels were genuine panels from VW. Took the car up to the painter. My mate towed me in his land rover.

Heres a quick pic of it....nice and wide!

Here's a couple of the car when they'd started some work

Shortly after those pics, all the windows were taken out.

Painted a few bits like wiper arms, the bits for the rear wheel well and the rear VW badge. Also painted the back parts of the headlights satin black to tidy them up. Forgot to get a pic though, gutted. They came up lovely.

Cleaned all the bumpers and arch trims, put some meguiars bumper trim on and renewed the red stripe in the bumpers.

Heres a couple outside the painters when I picked it up. Nice fresh paint! When the windows went back in, a new front screen was put in too.

Gettin towed by the land rover

When I fitted the new stuff I got all new bolts and screws and that. Ended up comin to £33!

Also got a new aerial base, new wiper blades, new sunroof and front windscreen seal.

When it was painted, the whole car was done. All exterior, door shuts and inside of the doors, boot shut, inside of boot, boot floor and the sides over the suspension. Also did the inside of the bonnet but didn't bother with the engine bay.

Decided to leave the side strips off as I thought it was a shame to cover up all the fresh paint. Left the front arches off for now, but the old ones are being modified to take the side strip bit out.

Also while the wheels were off, I got the tyres taken off and started rubbing them down for paint, then gave them to my mate Steve who refurbs wheels for him to paint for me. It's the colour for the civic type r wheels but mixed with a little silver so they're a bit lighter grey. But nice and metalic! New centre caps arrived this week too so they have to be changed.

Here's how it looks at the mo. Needs a good clean inside and out and got a few bits to do. Got headlight protectors to get fitted too. New front G40 badge on the way in much better condition. And I'm after a mint rear G40 badge too if anyone knows of one not going for stupid money.

I'm gonna try give it a good clean this weekend so if I do I'll get some new pics up.
