Now i Hate to admit it but i give up after only trying two things to solve it.

First of all the problem is a whiring sound from the front wheels/axles dependant souly upon speed of hte car not revs but actual speed so i ruled out and am ihoping i still can rule out the gearbox.

Not i thought it may be the new bolts from the new wheels as iv heard of this before so i undid each bolt and checked its base to see for anywear non found.

Then i tryed a front disk pad change as i thought it could the pads rubbing ever so slightly now i admit they havn't bedded in yet and are new on so this may still be the problem .

Anyone got nay clues?

Its a 1.0L T reg for reference.

Is its a humming / whirring noise? Does it go up and down slightly or louder / quiater? The fatser you go does the sound get higher pitched.

If so it could be a wheel bearing.

Jack up can and place hands on top / bottom of tyre and pull-n-push to check for play in bearings.

Could still be the gearbox.

Could also be a wheelbearing as suggested above.

Try dropping the car into neutral when you've got it moving. If the noise still happens then it's most likely wheelbearing. If so it'll probably be worse on a long bend in a particular direction.

wheel bearing if it alters with speed.

If not that, release or thrust bearing in your gearbox? If you try what Alex says above ^^^ dropping it in neutral and the noise disappears then thats what it most likely is.

Heard that noise a few times on my first polo an every time it was a wheel bearing mate cheap an cheerful.
