1.4 6n (i always forget whether it's mk3 or mk4!) - £360 a year with Endsleigh, on my mum's policy, been driving for about 3 months. But i live in the arse end of nowhere so it's probably cheap because of that.

Yeah location has as much to do with it as car and age. I pay about double here in brum than what I'd pay at my parents' in the arse end of gloucester. That being £840 with elephant, 20 years old, license 2 years, 1 year NCB, no points/claims, mk2f CL Coupe 1.3 SPI with alloys, exterior and interior changes declared.

This is OT but confusion over these makes searching for stuff on eBay really annoying.

75–79 - Mk 1

79–81 - Mk 1F

81–90 - Mk 2 (86C)

90–94 - Mk 2F (86C)

94–00 - Mk 3 (6n)

00–02 - Mk 3F (6n2)

02–05 - Mk 4 (9n)

05–now - Mk 4F (9n3)

The Mk 1 Polo is a rebadged Audi 50 and doesn't seem to have its own platform code. FWIW the Audi's code is Typ 86.

This is all on the Wikipedia page, btw.

That just makes everything complicated, since I'm just used to

6n = mk4

6n2 = mk5

etc etc.

Just find that easier 8-)

It might be easier... but it's incorrect!

kind of, the 6N has always been referred to as the Mk4 over here by everyone except pedants. If you're searching ebay.de then use the german way of numbering them, but over here, most would consider you to be in the wrong. It confuses the fuck out of everyone on here as well since we all use the 'English' way

Insurance is doing my head in . . . 17 1st car mk4 1.4 16v n they want £3285???????? so i tohught 'must be the car' so changed it to a 1l polo and it dropped buy £400!? so they want me to pay £2850 for something worth say a grand 3rd party f+T

grrrr I'm so frustrated :tear:

insurance policies rose to cover the cost of all this shitty flood damage we've been suffering in the past year. I was quoted £1500 at 17 on my own policy on a GT a few months back, now i have to pay £1500 TPFT for a CL coupe 1.3 on my mums policy, admittedly with 0 noclaims. Its ridiculous considering the £400 that the car is worth.

yeh tell me about it, the cheapest insurance I've been quoted is £2825 so looks like thats what I'm gunna get. but i get free breakdown assistance and its my own policy so atleast ill get some no claims.

I'm paying £1800 TPF&T!!

I drive a mk4 1.4 8v and I'm 19, I have no years no claims(get my 1st soon), 9points and have all my mods declared!

Nick

Another fellow memeber with 9 points... :)

I didnt insure my car as i though 9 points would just be silly maybe ill see what they have to say ;)

I'm paying £1400 on a standard GT with adrian flux, I'm 18 and I've had my licence about 2-3 months

£140 a month becouse i tuk the insurance out before i was 21 only another 4 months to go then it drops to about £80 a monthe thay say only 3rd party too

some of these prices are crazy!!!! i paid £450 for my first year in a polo under my sisters name (she's 26 and an accountant) then £337 this year same deal on a similar car, next year she's chucking me off so it gonna be about 700 on my tod (2 years driving 2 years ncb + pass plus)

i couldnt comprehend spending more than a grand on insurance!

my first car was a m reg 1.3 fiesta and that cost me £1800 tptf (18just passed) then i got a 1.4 m reg escort and that was £1700 tpft, then i got 3 point for speeding and wrote my escort off and got me polo cost me £1300 fully comp! i was well impressed?

Why have car insurance when you can pay nothing and not have to worry about crashing into people, or having to declare modifications? I have an exhaust on my car and i haven't declared it, and I've had no trouble. But maybe thats due to my lack of insurance!

Anyway, you can always bribe the police!

no points, down to 1 accident (not my fault) now on 2year ncb

living in city centre, on 91 polo GT = £400 last year (1year ncb i think)

paid more to go with adrian flux this year (£531 or so) so that i could do my engine conversion & mods

total cost now = £664 for full g40 conversion, shrick cam, toothies, superchip, g40 brakes, stiffened/lowered suspension blah.....

cheaper than a real g40 ! :D

  • 2 weeks later...

i am 17 and i have a 1.3 cl and i pay 1400, with an 800 excess and my cars only worth 400. that was the cheapest i found after ages of searching.

Only just saw your reply... I used to have mate called Jamie. That was actually his name on his passport and birth certificate; not James, but Jamie. For some reason I got in the habit of calling him Jim; not sure why now but I just got used to doing it. Used to wind him up something chronic!

I'm not going to get in an argument about which one is correct cos we won't agree, but I'm amused that there's an 'English way' to refer to the model numbering scheme of a German car.

18 last week, 6n 1.4 16v (gr 10) standard, £1200 fully comp, no NCB or anything.
