Bored today and have a set of Borbets that need refurbing so I though about starting with them today. Only thing is no tyre places are open on a Sunday so I can't have the tyres taken off, if I can't have the tyres off makes them a bitch to refurb! Anyone ever taken there own tyres of with the kind of tools you'd have lying around?

I've tried before, even with a proper manual tyre machine and bead breaker. couldnt do it! will probably damage the rims if you try

Are you bothered about the tyres?

If not, fastest way is a grinder and a hacksaw.

Drive your car onto the egde of the tyres to break the bead(These need to be deflated with valves removed first). Then you just need an old set of tyre irons (like crow bars) to get the rubber off the rims.

Bear in mind i did this to a set of steelies which i didn't want the tyres from

alloy is so easily bent or damaged tho compared to steel. id just hammer the booze today then take em to tyre gaff tomozzza

slip one of the monkeys there a 5er and they'lltake em off no bother, i have done it at the one near me a few times now!

Kwikfit are a joke, want £9.99 per tyre just to take it off.

Those Sunderland monkeys will be putting my tyres on my winter wheels. I'm hoping they can cope with the complexities of putting on a non-stretched tyre and it won't leak so I have to fill the can't up every other day.

i heard they tried to put a tire on a bicyle but all 6 of the men who work there ended up getting stuck in the spokes and rolling down the hill straight into the wear.

DO NOT goto Kwik Fit, i went there yesterday with my new alloys it took them 3 of them 2 take 1 tyre off and in the process they put a bloody dent and scrathched 2 of them :mad: and they deny it even tho u can clearly see the fresh scratches... so need to go in tomorrow and speak to the manager i wouldnt recomend them at all......

I bought me a manual tyre changer. £40 = bargain. Takes some brute force though, and i wouldnt use it on good condition alloys.

i used a saw to get my tyre off.

then proceeded to proper fuck the rim up......yay

but then again - i was weighing the alloy in!
