How is the alternator tensioned? is there a spring or something? because from looking at it, i cant see any form of moving it away from the block. could do with sorting it as my belt screeches badly, or well it did a few weeks back and its kind of stopped now.

The belt should have 5-10mm flex,and should ideally be checked with your other checks at oil changes.

You loosen the upper bolt aswell,and just wedge an extension bar or something in there and push against the alternator whilst tightening the lower bolt. Then tighten top,and the belt should have a nice 5mm flex.

If it has any teeth missing or is in considerable stage of cracking,renew it. You might wanna do that anyway,they only cost pocket change.

rightyo ill have a look at it tomorrow i think, probably needs a new belt. It flaps about a good bit when the engines idling think i saw a couple of cracks in it too. Thanks :)
