I actually can't think of any!

Detailing it.

fluffy dice?

Most mods will affect insurance. Sad but true i know.

Wheels are the shit one though, I tried to insure a Fiat Bravo with alloy wheels once. As standard they wanted £1400, with alloys wheels on at a value of only £200-£300 they wanted an extra £500 a year. The worst part was it was Third party only insurance so in any circumstance my car wasn't covered!

no, if you change anything at all on a car from standard parts it is a mod.... my mate asked about an insurance discount for having a snap off wheel as once the wheels off the cars pretty much disabled but his company actually said no it will increase the policy by £50 as its a modification!

Insurance companies are stupid at times, i know a guy who fitted a tracker to his A4 convertible, and instead of it reducing his insurance they put it up because it was classed as an aftermarket modification??

I heard that you can change the wheels as long as you don't increase the size. This may be wrong  Also I think that it may vary from company to company?

Ones you don't declare ;)

I tried to blag a brake upgrade for my mk3, on the grounds that it is widely acknowledged that the standard brakes are absolutely crap and are almost dangerous in situations where strong braking is needed. I told them that i would be much less likely to be involved in an incident with 256mm discs and uprated pads, than i would with the standard setup, and hence less of a risk to the company insuring me. I have been in an accident before due to the abysmal braking force generated by the standard setup, and wanted to avoid this happening in my own car.

She basically told me to funk off if i wasnt prepared to bend over and pay shitloads for it.

Edit to say that both I and Clubpolo do not under any circumstances condone misinforming your insurance company in order to gain a lower premium. Even when any claim would not cover your own vehicle, but just that of another party, despite the stupidly high premium you have paid.

"And how much extra will some chrome pinstriping cost?"

"£93 you say?"

"Erm no i haven't done it, i was just considering it... Erm... Goodbye!"

on my new car which i brought (mk2 gti) at 19. i pay abit but my policy is a bhp policy. basically it says my car must not go over 130bhp, otherwise i have to pay for it

but heres the good part!! i can list all modifications, wheels, grille lights etc and it makes no difference to the price! as long as i let them know what I've added to the car they will cover!

I asked why I'd be charged more to run bigger brakes once and they said it was because the only reason I would need to upgrade my brakes is because I drive faster than I should. LAMEZ0RZ

I didn't for the first 2 years of driving, this year though Adrian Flux were cheaper then any Moneysupermarket and confused quote even though i declared all my mods with Adrian Flux and i told the others it was standard.

might get away with painting your fingernails...

Carbon air freshner!

Dunno, interior mod...

It depends who insures you. If it's direct line then they have a very strict "NO MODIFICATIONS" rule for anyone under 25.

Which is completely rediculus - but they make the rules.

Umm, I haven't experienced this myself but according someone on this forum [i'm not sure of their screen name or the post it was in] said that brentacre don't charge extra for non-engine related modifications. I could be wrong but that doesn't sound like something he may have made up to me.

Yup but Brentacare charge a more in the first place...and also they require you to be of a certain age or have a certain amount of NCB.

Yep, Brentacre don't charge you as you declare cosmetic mods, but they were nearly £150 cheaper than the next cheapest quote I had - seriously! I'm very old and have shitloads of NCB, but most insurance companies wanted to butt-fuck me as soon as I mentioned modifications.
