on my new car which i brought (mk2 gti) at 19. i pay abit but my policy is a bhp policy. basically it says my car must not go over 130bhp, otherwise i have to pay for it

but heres the good part!! i can list all modifications, wheels, grille lights etc and it makes no difference to the price! as long as i let them know what I've added to the car they will cover!

Who is your insurer? that sounds excellent? i fitted alloys to my lupo and it put my fully comp policy up by £700 for the last 8 months of my policy *groan* i was only 20 at the time tho

I agree, insurers will try to get out of paying out, declare everything even mats etc, but they should not increase premium for gearknob and tinted lights. I know this because I declared EVERYTHING, even the friggin air freshner to be safe. If you modify the cars chassis, or how the car performs etc, the premium WILL go up obviously as the characteristics of the car have changed. Metal door pins do not change how the car drives.

did u get the first form that says this is not your full info?

slightly off topic but i was at one point previously going to get a motorbike wen i first passed my bike test. due to my age i would have had to restrict the bike to 33bhp... I've now passed that two years and dont need it anymore...

but i had a few quotes to see what bike i could afford.. now while the bike would be slower and the only thing different is generally something that stops the butterfly fully opening or a different ecu which restricts top end...

but insurance was more restricted never understood this :s i was beter off getin the bike restricting it for legal resons and then insuring it without the restrictor... fucking dum ass insurance companies :(

Me: say in the future ( meaning i allready have them ) i wanted to moddify my car, what would i need to declair.

Quinn Direct : There are only two main things which are, Suspension and Increasing the BHP.

Me: What about Sterio's and Speaker Ect.

Quinn Direct: Yeh thats fine.

Me: But is that insured.

Quinn: No.

So basicly quinn direct allow stuff like badless grill, Ice , Tints ect, but they dont insure it so if you break it as you write your car off your tuff luck.

my car has indcution kit , lowerd 70mm , red HT leads and pipes, ats classics. I haven't declared any off this... I'm with tesco , they dont even accept mods. But its simple really , as soon as i crash i swap insuarnce documents over etc etc and then if I'm able drive it home if not. Recovery truck , then i simply change all the old things back onto the car.

Almost two years old this thread.
