hi, I've got an mk4, i got those hella led rear lights, i brought some mk5 bulb holders for them to work, but when I've fited them, there is a problem, when the indicators come on, both brake lights flash and 1 indiccator, when i press brake 1 of the indicators come on and another lights,

i would of thought it would be a straight replacement when i got the mk5 bulb holders for them, now that I've got them i got this problem,

has anyone had this problem before? i asked my mate who works at the garage and he said it will be a long job as you will have to rewire them all on the bulb holders with solderin iron etc..

you have to chop an change some of the wires, and flip over one of the plugs...i'll find you the post on uk-polos about how to do it

less than that dude, you only have to swap two wires that go into the plugs, but i've forgotten which ones!

and just for the record, the car in that guide is Mine :-D

does that guide sort out the indicators and brake lights etc, and the led to work.

The guide ensures the lights operate correctly mate

Hi mate i fitted my hellas on the saturday just gone and its dead easy, if you look at the connector carefully from the cars wiring loom you will notice that the pins are all numbered for each wire (similar to a tv scart socket), you have to cut wires 1 and 2 for the passenger side tail lamp connector and swap the wires round and plug it back in.

For the driver side you have to cut wires 4 and 5 and swap them over however when you plug the connector in for the driver side tail lamp you also have to plug it into the socket the wrong way round, basicly cut those two flat plastic strips off on the plug which stops the connector from going in the socket the wrong way, flip it over and plug it in the other way round and your lights should work fine mate! They wont sit perfectly flush however unless you do abit more work to the chassis.

Just thought i might add for the LEDs to work obviously make sure you dont fit a bulb in the bulb holder for that strip, take those two wires, the brown and grey ones and plug them into the socket on the bulb holder which has 3 pins, the brown goes into the left pin and the grey into the right if i remember correctly i could be wrong here might be the other way round but its one way round or the other, if you got your lights brand new they should have included a diagram in there which you can refer to mate.

u joka, u gave the correct instruction 4 the passenger side but the drivers side was wrong wires 5 & 6? ..lol.. so my m8 guesed the wires. but it fukd up. so drove the car with 1 hella led light on and the other tinted black. i got the right wires from that guide on 1 of the links above. it wos wires 4 & 5. lol.. anyway sorting it 2mz. cheers nwy.

Oh shit sorry mate, i was just going by my memory man, i just remember it was the two on the end lol hope you get it sorted but trust me its easy remember u gotta plug the connector in the other way too or it wont work right...

I've edited my original post just in case anyone else goes by what i wrote lol but yeh if you follow the uk polo guide then it will work fine, i followed the same guide.

Right so you said the passenger side one is working properly yeh?

ok so for the driver side what you want to do is connect those two brown and grey wires from the LED Strip to the 3 pin connector which is on the back of the bulb holder at the bottom,

connect it the same way you did on the passenger side, in other words brown goes into pin number 1, grey goes into pin number 3. Sorted!

As for the rest if you have swapped wires 4 and 5 round thats all you have to do, then just flip the connector over so it goes in the opposite way and they should work.

I'll post up some pics for you tomorrow if i get a chance so you can have a look at how i did mine.

Heres a pic of how my ones are mate. When you flip the connector over and plug it into the socket the wires should be in that order.

On my one wire 5 is green and black and wire 4 is red and black. They might be different colours on your one though. Ignore those blue connectors they were already there for some reason i just snipped wires 4 and 5 and switched them round and its all good!
