mk4 16v insurance

Featured Replies

Hello people.

I've got a 1999 16v 6n and I am insuring it with Direct Line. I have to remain with this company until my policy expires next month so have little choice as to what to do but here's my rant anyway:

Some of you may remember i had some problems with direct line not insuring me when I first got this car because it has modified suspension, and they don't insure anyone under 25 - no exceptions!

So I had to reduce the policy to a fire and theft only policy, and say that I wasn't going to drive it at all (Basically a garaged policy but with the car being on a drive instead). I was then told that the car needed to have a thachem aproved immobaliser fitted, to which I told them several times that the original factory installed device was fitted, as was on all polos of the era. But the required a letter from a garage confirming this. I got a local garage to write up a letter saying "Car Reg blah has a factory fitted imobilser" or words to that effect, which I then sent them with a cover letter. About 10 days letter I recieved a letter back from them, expecting it to say you are now fully covered, but it read something like "the letter you supplied us does not confirm the manufacturer or rating of the installed imobiliser and therefore you are not covered against theft or attempted thieft until we receive confirmation" Argh!

So my dad took the car down to the local VW dealer to see what they had to say, rang direct line from the show room, and they wouldn't speak to the service manager there or my dad (he's a named driver on my policy) So I then had to ring them up and allow other names to speak to them.

My dad then rang them back and got the service bloke to speak to them, the conclusion being that they would not cover it as there are no specificatioins for the factory fitted item.

The VW bloke couldn't belive what he was hearing that possibly the most effective immobilser (factory installed) was not sufficient,

My dad was very pissed off with them and asked how the car could be coverd for theft to which they replied it must be fitted with an aftermarket thachem aproved immobilser due to the desireablilty of the car.

So I'm here now with a car that is only coverd against fire!! for a car that is sat on my drive with me not being able to drive it - Until my policy expires and I can move my business to an insurer that actually make sense, and want my low risk business!!!

Has anyone else experienced such utter bull sh*t? :smoke:

Rant over - saga continues!

burn it!!!!

has to be a cat3 or above i guess.. (paperwork has to prove this) had 2 have a cat1 n tracker b4 i could get my scooby insured.. at £1300 for a 34 year old.

I've been refused insurance b4 because my 15" rims were bigger than my standard 13" rims.. how it goes I'm affraid.

Edited by riskie

direct line wouldnt insure me till i was 21

so i went with quinn

Yeah direct line are shit for mods, but for standard cars its brill. Paying £545 for my gti. Thats me being 21 and 3 years no claims. When i decide to mod it i will have to change my insurance company tho where i will be paying quite a bit more!

Direct line are great!

690 for a provisional licence.

They wanted 400 TPFT for my polo & when I bought the corsa for £60 extra I could go fully comp.

They were bastards about the start date though, I ended up driving it to work uninsured as I asked for from 7am and for some reason it didn't start till 2pm?! :S

Direct line are alrgiht, providing you dont have/declare any mods. I'm constantly reminded now whenever i call up regarding ANYTHING that you have to be over 25 to have modifications, even if I'm asking about my renewal or something. I think i've been blacklisted lol.

Due to losing 1yrs NCB and 2 accidents everyone was quoting me around £2000-£3000 TPFT, which I thought was ridiculous. However Direct Line went one better then all of them quoting me £4900!! With all the problems I hear about them I don't know why I even bothered waisting time getting a quote. God knows who does their risk analysis cos they need to be shot :unibrow:

And their hold times are horendous too! I'm not planning on speaking to them again other than to cancel my policy on the day it ends!

Call adrian flux. They will NOT muck you about at all. They are awesome. Say Daniel from Dodmods sent you. They should look after you as I have a business relationship with them. I got my sister insured on a car that all other companies would laugh at her! They insured her no problems for a decent price!! Call them now on 08700777888. If they ask more questions, say Dan from Dodsmods knows Craig Darwin, head of marketing for Adrian Flux. He authorises deals.

Direct line are dicks, I had a prang in my polo.

30 mph into the back of a clio ( it deserved it really, its french), sod all damage to her car, broken tailgate lock and little dent where as the polo cam away with broken radiator housing,m cracked radiator, bent bonnet, front bumper, both wings and smashed grill ( god bless crumple zones.

Any way phone them up, no problem, have someone round tomorrow to collect it and drop of courtesy car.

Two weeks later, i phone up

"Is my car ready?"

"Nope, and were not doing it"

"OK, why not?"

"Because you have non standard alloys on the vehicle"

This is the raceline ones that came with the vehicle that i bought second hand, and I believe were a free upgrade at original phurchase

They then proceed to tell me that if want my polo fixed I'd have to either be removed from the policy (was in my mums name) or pay £500 excess and put steels on the car.

"Oh and by the way we need the courtesy car back as you can only have it for two weeks!" they then tell me, dispite the fact that the insurence company saw the car the day after it got to the body shop and its been there 2 weeks.

Sod off was my reply, took the car out of the body shop, got the car back on the road (body panels were a mess) for £130 in a day. Then proceeded to cancel my mums, sisters and my own car insurence and home insurence.

That'll learn them

They turnover is in the millions if not billions, I'm sure they'll miss you :)

DL are a right pain tho. I have both cars and house insured with them. Went through a right royal palava to get the Polo insured with them. Finally insured (much cheapness with Mrs as learner) and they request proof of NCB from prev insurer.... which is them, but policy ran out in June.

So, I advise them of this but they have to send me the Proof of NCB so I can send it back to them..... muppets!

:)

insured me on mine since i was 20..

direct line are c**ts

nuff said i reckon

quinn wanted 2200

Direct line is that the one with the 4 wheel red phone thing they have as an ad

direct line have always beign great with me..

rich its cos you are sisters fit

Some of you may remember i had some problems with direct line not insuring me when I first got this car because it has modified suspension, and they don't insure anyone under 25 - no exceptions!

when i was 19 i was with direct line - had no problems with them and they were the cheapest i could find (no NCB, no accidents, no experiance) on a 1.3 mk2 golf.

fell out with them when i had an accident (as most young drivers do in the first year!!) but we wont go into that about d/line (its not interesting!)

I've been with them since I was 17. But the won't insure valvers unless over 21, or modifications unless over 25 :!:

direct line wont insure me at 19 with 2 years no claims on a 1.4 16v but will on a mk5 gti dont ask me y lol stupid or what

Direct line are the worst!!! End of.

Had Lupo GTi had to downgrade to a polo Mk4 as it no longer made sense running the lupo. Got a quote for the polo and asked how much it would be on top to insure the GTi....the thick cow said £0....nothing to insure a Lupo GTi!!! Then found out that she would have been sacked if anything had happened to the car. May also have been problems making a claim had anything happened as the details she took down were wrong.

Then bought a VW caddy PICK UP.....called up gave them the reg and they repeated back what the car was including the word PICK UP. Then bought another lupo. Ammended the policy but then asked about temp cover on the pick up. They said they don't insure pick ups and that the car would not have been insured. Great!! Admin there are a nightmare...... now with adrian flux and all is well!! mods declared and fully happy.

Direct Line,shite....proved that to me anyway!! :-) They even class optional extras as mods and will not insure you with them despite whether or not they make a difference to performance. I know some could make a difference to the desirability of a car, then again if i was going out to steal a car i would not be choosing a victim based on a sunroof and colour coded mirrors!! ( i do not steal cars ) My Mk2 has a sunroof as an option and they said it would not be covered. what a loaf of crap!!

Direct line....don't bother... UK only call centres full of peeps with no brains :-)
