Standard shocks + lowering more than 40mm = shocking handling.

You can get kits so cheap now its not even worth not replacing the shocks. Specially on a mk1!

thought that'd be the case

any idea where to get these kits from as I'm so clueless its untrue

been into aircooled cars my whole life so I'm pretty out of touch

cheers, paul

As far as i know, the lowering kits for mk1, 2 and 3 polos (as they are known on here) - or pre-6n, if you prefer, are all the same. I may be wrong though. Look in the Jackson tuning section on here for cheap kits, and some better quality ones too. Otherwise, i know Venom motorsport sell them.

Only thing is, if its a early one (chrome bumpers) you need to use mk2/3 components to make it work with the lowering kit. I don't know what specific parts you need but Charlie (thats her username) will most likely know, if she doesn't I'm sure she knows someone who will, lol.

Hello! :) Cheers Kam... If it's a plastic bumper (post Feb 1979) you'll be fine, if not you need late mk1 or mk2 or 3 struts and steering rack. Jackson Tuning (PhilJ) for your kit, and 60/40mm at least! Anymore mk1 questions drop me a pm or something. :)
