Aero wipers

Featured Replies

As title. I've found my wipers start to lift off the screen at speed (faster than I should go, no doubt). I can't remember, but I think aero wipers are designed to stop this?

Can someone confirm please, and I can't find any off the shelf kits for the Mk3 Polo. Best to just get universals and attach them?

Bearing in mind this happens at 95ish, I think most Polos will be able to crack that.

I just find it odd that there are G40s (and GTs for that matter) that will hit 120 or whatever, and my wipers are noticeably lifting off the screen at not very fast at all.

Then again, what kind of dickhead drives at this sort of speed in the rain

Maybe I've just answered my own question!

I've never noticed my wipers lifting off the screen but as you say, I don't really do those speeds in the rain if I can help it!

I see you can now get aero wipers which fit on normal arms but I'm not sure they do them small enough for a polo. I know they do them for passats since that;s what I was looking at them for. Info about the passat ones here:

You might be able to get in touch with someone there to see if small polo sized ones are available.

I got some from here.

ah that's cool, even cheaper than that bloke on the passat forum I posted. Still, mk2/3 wiper blades are quite a lot smaller than mk4 polo ones so I'd still not be suprised if they didn't do them in the right size. Definitely worth asking that ebay bloke though, I'll probably buy some for my passat from him.

I've just got some from HIDS4U there really good nice and thin 19" long

think it was about £15 delivered

I had this problem (also at not very fast speeds - well under 70 iirc) and it turned out I was running wipers that were too long. I bought some proper length Bosch ones (16" rings a bell, don't know..) with the spoiler on them and they haven't left the screen since.

When they wear out though I'll be looking for some aero ones too :)

^^^^ This site is great, tell them your make and model and they list the blades that actually fit! No egay universal crap here. Both standard and aero blades are listed and you get em the next day!

And yes the dont do that lift/ripple thing at high speed. I have read somewhere that aero wipers dont do this til 120mph!!

I'm yet to have a car that doesn't piss me off with wipers that screw up. Something ALWAYS goes wrong with mine, dunno why, I'm cursed I tells you!

In the Lupo they used to lift of at any speed over about 55, so I got some retro fit aero ones and they do lift off but not until about 75 and even then its only a tiny bit in the bottom of the screen.

But as the Hayes says, driving fast in the rain in the cleverest of ideas anyway!

Use RainX and leave the wipers switched off.
