Featured Replies

Right I'm toying with the idea of matt blacking the whole car leaving a mattalic roof and having a rust look rat bonnet?

What do you lot think? I'm just worried that i wont like it and if I dont then. . . . . .

Opinions needed, if I decide yes advice on spraying it?

Cheers

I don't like the rat look.... Such a shiny motor too seems a waste!!!

Thats just my opinion then!

I can see a lot of people hating on this idea later, lol, but I kinda like the sound of it. If I get round to it later I'll do a photoshop and post it up. But then again, that is a pretty mint polo you got there... Up to you.

It does look good in that pic but its really not. I removed the bumpstrips and it appears the previous owner had it resprayed but a child, they must have left the strips on because you can see where the paint stops n starts again!!

Also if you look on the sills you can see where the paint has been to thick and run!

This seems to be really hit and miss with the majority of the people on here. Some people like the look but it appears the majority don't like it. I personally think it can look really good :-D . Satin black rather than the chalkboard/matt black though with it being a Mk4. The thing i would avoid is using the term Rat to describe it. Do a good clean job on it and it is all thumbs up from me!! Personal preference is what it comes down to. If the paint on your car is not what you want then change it. Get all the right info and if doing your own home job get all the right tools and don't get bored of prep and half arse it. I was going to attempt a respray myself. Was going to get some wreck to practice on first before making a mess of my pride and joy. I say go for it. You may save £££'s but it won't be easy. Use quality stuff and spend a lot of time. Read up, ask questions and when it is done let me know how it went :-) Would be interested to see what it looks like in the end!!

It definately won't be easy!!

Good luck!!

:-D

OK, I have done a quick photochop for you, to get an idea of what it might look like. I really quite like it lol. See what you think for yourself...

If the car was a hanging piece of shit I could understand why you would do that, but the car looks in good nick, very nicely modified so why the hell would you wanna make it look like a hoopty piece of shit?!

i matt blacked my car but my paint was real bad to start with , yours dose seem like suck a nice car , but it is up to

all i can say is no its you are decision though

tbh i dont think matt black will suit the 6n. i considered it with my last one. the thing is, matt black is an old skool kind of thing, and the 6n isnt an old skool car...

just my 2p worth

Leave the matt black for the chavved up 1.2 novas mate i like your car as it is! :-D

erm dont agree with that it suits polos well most vw's, if it's what you want mate do it, i've just done my mk3 and i love it will get pics up soon, just need to drop it and get my wheels on.

Now a matt black nova that's just ludicrous.

Matt black is sooooo overdone.

Matt orange ftw.

i'm feelin matt chocolate brown ftw for my next project

I would advise against it TBH, i had a very very clean silver mk3 coupe. Mint body work. And I've painted it matte black.

Do i love it, McHELL YEA but its a pain in the arse at times.

Your car looks sweet, leave it alone. Buy another car that needs work, new wings doors and make a project out of doing it

properly.

Dont ruin your black MK4. Shiney black looks so good.

Mine definately AINT a nova! Then again, mines satin so there is a difference.

Can't your existing bodywork be given a lil tlc to make it look better?

Sparaying it matt or satin black can look good if its a good job thats done. Also, you'll have to wash it bloody loads to keep it looking clean. trust me, i know!

if you want to do it though, do it. its your car at the end of the day so who gives a foop what anyone else thinks.

If you're gonna spray it matt black,do it for the right reason - not a cop-out.

You're making excuses,so if you want it matt, just do it.

Runs are simple to remove - simply scrape them away with gentle strokes of a stanley blade at 90 degrees, then feather it with wet 1500 paper and polish it up with some Tcut-metallic. As for the side strip lines, again, just filter the lines gently with said wet 1500 and polish up with said Tcut-metallic.

Then resinpolish the whole car and its mint.

Surely if you go T-Cutting and polishing a matte car then it will not be matte any more :?

And my tupence - matt black looks a bit pants!

He didn't mean polishing the matt car...

He was giving advice on getting runs out the existing paintwork.

^ ^

lol

( my car could do with a machine polish...or better still a re-spray :( )

I worry. I really do worry.
