Hi guys as you will probebly know iam new to this,internet game,ihave been offered a set of16inch ronal gti turbo alloys of the mk4 golf,the tyres on it are 205,55,16 does any one know if thel go on my mark 6 polo,i will be glad for any help guys,thanks i done a photoshp,and they fit fine on it,LOL

205/40 or 195/40 would be my choice. 205/50 still too big

I get pissy if they put oght bigger'n 45 on mine

Std for you car is 195/45-16". 205/55-16" will mean your speedo will be reading 30 and you'll actually be doing 34-35, or 70mph and actually doing 76.5mph.

Too risky in this GATSO infested country of ours. Plus, it will invalidate your insurance and any warranty you may have.

Get the right size tyres or smaller, never bigger !!!!!

Its not such an issue if you're only out by a few mm, cos after a few thou miles the tyre will wear and you're back within limits. But that size of tyre is quite a big differece.

Also, my neighbour has the same Polo as you but 5dr and if you look at the rear mud guard you'll see there is about a finger width gap between tyre and part of the mud-guard (inner edge of tyre area). Larger tyres will most likley be too big to fit in the gap and rub on the plastic backing to the m/guard so you might need spacers to keep the tyre out an extra 10-15mm or so.

What spec are the alloys, ie width and ET? If they have a high ET then they'll sit further in under the arch and so the tyres wil mostly likely rub here and there. If a low ET then they'll sit further out so may not rub up inside but may, under heavy compression of the rear, rub on the arches.

Thats the tyres............. if alloys are standard fot the the MK4 Gti, they they'll be 5x100 ET between 35-38. Which should be the same a 5stud Polos.

Alloys should fit fine, it'll just be the tyres that need to be sized down correctly.
