I knw you get what you pay for, but i dnt want to pay over the moon, i listen to quite a range of music but most of it pritty bassy, what should i go / look for?

buy a sub! i pressume you've got an upgraded headunit? spend the money on a sub and amp, then turn all of the bass setteng to min on the headunit, this will stop the std speakers trying to produce bass. then adjust the setting on the amp to give the suitable amount of bass through the sub. most std speakers get killed by trying to produce bass notes, so if they dont have to, they will a. sound better and b. go louder without distorting. this is a far more effective way of getting decent bass. then you can save up for some replacement front speakers for the fronts!

not 100% true but almost i find you need to have you settings low bnut not too min as this will cut all or almost all bass even on a dedicated sub out if you can afford it crossovers are the best thing to use,

i have my bass set as low as it will go on my cheapo headunit in my gt and i can assure you they is still enough bass to make you deaf! the guy is clearly not bothered about super high end equipment otherwise he would have a headunit with built in crossovers which would render my previous post useless, however if you arent looking to spend a fortune it is a very cheap way of getting a reasonable setup.

to be perfectly honest, I'm still rolling with the tape player ;] i play my ipod though the radio with one of them dodgy things, but I'm getting a head unit eventually as my gf is buying me one.

I'm not arsed about amazing equipment i just want something that sounds good, doesnt destort at a decent volume and doesnt blow my bank.

tbh i was looking at just fitting some decent front speakers and some 6 bee 9's in the boot...?

I would just get a new headunit and see how that sounds, odds are it will be good enough for you, standard speakers arent that bad if you've got them running off a decent headunit or even better if they're amped properly. so just wait and see how it sounds with the new HU.

my g/f is getting headunit for me for christmas, so i was planning on upgrading speakers ready for it...

so in my opinion the headunit isnt top priority.

what kind of budget are you think of?

if you buy new speakers and an amp and the wiring, then when you get the HU you can bung them all in, putting new speakers with the old HU, you wont notice a huge ammount improvement really
