I've recently wired up my 6x9's to a brand new amp.

When the speakers are on and the volume is down there is a real high pitched noise.

this is the good part!! When i rev the engine the pitch of the noise gets higher then drops with the revs!!!!

anyone know what this could be???

that will be your rca leads picking up noise from your power cable. quality rcas are the key, although cheapo ones are fine if you are just running a sub cos the amp filters out the high freq noise.you could try running them down the opposite side off the car to the power.

i've ran them down the opposite sides.

but have recently split the power, and rca cables to supply to another amp so i'll have to try moving my rca cables.

so are you running two amps off one set of rca's? do you only have one port on the h/u?

I'd start again with the wiring, check all of it... make sure all of your -'s & +'s are correctly matched up, your ground wire has got good contact with bare metal, power cable has good connection...

see how that goes... no harm in doing all that just to make sure all is correct...

then i'd look to your balance on the amp i.e fronts/rear if it has it sound that out... i normally give my fronts a bit more power cos hey u dont fit a sound system so the gimps in the back get a good show! (depends on how good your front components are though) next frequency settings, i'd start of with a mid volume and tweek the dials until you get a decent sounds "play it by ear!" then i'd whack it up to a decent volume and tweek again to make sure its perfect... i.e not too toppy or catching some of the deeper freq's n messin up the sound...

just out of interest what amp is it? how many speaker outputs does it have?

that sounds for sure like alternator whine! Its the RCA picking up interference from the power cable, even if the two cables just cross each other.

Try to keep them seperate as much as possible. If this can't be helped, i'd suggest buying some better quality RCA leads as the slightly more expensive ones have better shielding in them, to prevent this from happening! Even running the signal cable near to a low power cable can make this happen!

Also you could check the the Alternator Suppressor is correctly attached. Some alternators have them plugged in on the bottom. You can also get after-market ones are places like Maplins. But as it has been stated I would check the cables and the earth of the am first.

i have one set of rca cables going from head unit, then i bought these splitter things which turn it into two so i could have two amps.

there is a lot of loose wire under the build so it may well have got crossed somewhere. thanks very much guys.

what is the alternator surpressor? where is it found? what does it do?
