Gotta buy a dry cell battery or two as part of my install.

Had a look on egay but there seems to be a couple of different ones i could buy. Size isn't really a problem as its going to be housed somewhere behind front seats (haven't rteally thought that far yet!) but theres red, yellow and blue top batterys i've seen so far and now i'm confused!

can anyone shed some light into this and help me out?

Varley red tops have the biggest name, but Hawker are just as good. I don't know what they are like under the conditions that you intend to use them for. Most racing batteries are just there to start the car so they have very good cranking power but you're knackered if it doesn't start in a small no. of attempts. They may not like deep discharge.

mines gonna need to be able to take some punishement. Was looking at optima or stinger but not sure which one to buy!

Depends how you're charging it. If you want something that'll forgive an alternator being hooked up and the general unpredctiveness of a car charging system, I'd say go for the Hawker Genesis, we use to use these in Robot Wars and they take hammer in a big way. If you can give a smooth-wave regulated charge, I'd use a Yuasa NP, as they are dirt cheap and the current delivery is excellant.

use and swear by Optima "Yellow Top" batteries.....

yeah, i've heard alot of good things about the yellow top optimas. They're £180/200 each and i think i might need 2 so don't want to spalsh the cash if the batteries i buy end up being shite!

Exide do some Gel batteries aswell,we sell loads of the

MAX900DC and MAX900's batteries to a garage that

specialises in repairing/servicing camper vans.

i would highly recommend Optima Yellow Tops batteries

if you are split charging and arnt worried about weight you can get the batteries martin has in his walled polo, they are big heavy yellow blocks, PM him and ask....

otherwise a optima yellowtop is the dogs danglies

Budget is errr, whaever. I don't by cheap crap, put it that way! Current draw is gonna be hellishly silly! Roughly 400amps (my big amp is 300 by itself!) and mainly when the engines running although if i could turn it off it would be a bonus.

I enquired about a uprated alternator ages ago which i stupidly never brought so i'm gonna try and find the guys details and get back in contact with him, a well as upgrade massively the big 3.

Seen a guy who runs a intercity train battery but i don't think i want to go that silly!

400 amps your gonna need to uprate the alternator for sure 90 -120 will do as a direct replacement, as for batteries for that sort of power and to keep your voltage up 2 of the big yellow batteries like i have would be perfect

you don't need all these dry cell batteries etc there for playing with the engine off and draining and recharging alot you won't be wanting to play with the engine off as you will have lower voltage, and thats no good for powerfull amps

the batteries to have are northstar nsb90's 2 will run well in your setup there about £175 each i'm changing to these and having either 4 or 6 depending on getting them all to fit

i'm running 1000amps just on the 2 bass amps and i'm gonna be running dual alternators as well.

make sure your running 0 guage front to back as well and 0 guage the big 3

cool. is there any alternator in that range that ain't a bitch to fit? My limits changing a wheel to give you some idea!

My bass amp kicks out 3600w (300amp fuse), plus my 4ch for the front comps (2 x 40amp fuses) and i've still gotta get a amp to run my 2 DVC 8's so i'm estimating at 400amps in total, although looking at it, seems a lil low considering i need 1000w for the 8's !!

Where can i get hold of some of those northstar batteries from?

think i'mrunning 0 gauge cable, pretty sure. Gonna sort the big 3 when i can borrow my girlfriends garage for a weekend. can i use offcuts of the power cable to do this?

Got plenty of offcuts of 0 gauge in the garage so i'll take a look at the weekend if it aint lashing down with rain. I did find a guy on ebay who sold uprated alternators for mk3s. He did a 150amp iirc for about £160 but it was chromed (not my taste but if it works...........)

originally, i was gonna run a dolby surround system as i have all the bits and bobs but the surround processor won't really connect up easily to my EPX2 equaliser so i was gonna mount them in the passenger footwell for midbass like you suggested, with the power turned down so the treble isn't muffled. If that fails, they are going right behind the front seats as thats the only place really in my plans i have any spare room and i don't ant to compromise footwell space as my girlfriend wn't like being cramped up on long journeys!
