I think a loon would make a good pickup, because the longer body length would give you a larger load area and it'd look in better proportion. Mind you, loons are pretty rare, so you'd have to be pretty ballsy to cut one up. Either that, or a 6 wheeler like the one on chop shop, but without all the shit bolted to it maybe? I like the idea of loon based squarebacks too.

Rarity doesn't stop people turning them into 'rats' . Would be more interesting to see a pick up! Apparently Team Guru had made a saloon pick up but I've never seen one. If I was going to properly make a Polo Pick Up I'd definately use a saloon as my base.

Already been done, can't find pics of it but it was a nice car, very well executed. Silver IIRC with a G40 motor in it. The rear side windows are comedy large

Hmmm, I don't know how you'd do that - there are a number of possibilities - haven't seen one, but would you use a caddy, or maybe a loon, or even the estate? I think the hatch would be too short again.

mk2 loons are common as muck, I see several everyday near me and several have been scrapped too, some of these even have the spoilers on the boot too. I'd use a loon because it has a larger loading area and round rear arches.

^^the back of that sill was fiberglass covered in underseal......bodge by the last owners.

SL740926.jpg

^^LOL. the top of the rear wings now have plates covering the holes

^^ I have cut some bits of wood to cover the framework - this will be covered in black carpet to match the original.

The frame in the back has more cross bars now, I have cut the checker plate for the back, It is all rubbed down now, just a couple of bits need a grind back to metal - bottom of the front of the front wings. fingers crossed, all welding is done now.

looking good gona be differant when its finished good luck

Looks really good!

Is this legal to do in the UK? Can you run it on the roads after this modification of the body?

The reason I'm asking, is cus if you do that to a polo for example in Denmark, and then try to run it on the roads, you will get caught and locked away for good :tear:

I love a man with long hair  And you make things on weeks off, you are so cool.

You're in there dude.

Cue Akon...

the guys who run the MOT place in the unit next to my dad think it should be fine to get a MOT. The harder thing might be insurance - they might want an 'engineers' report to check if it is strong enough - hence all the frame and bracing we have put in. But yes, it is legal.

^^ inside is nearly done - you can see a cardboard template, last bit to do!

I have a Cobra bucket seat for the driver, and a rev counter (with shift up light!) coming in the post.

SL740938.jpg

^^ We got some tanalysed ply (marine) for the back - have cut a hole for the spare wheel. There will be a big cut pice of rubber over the ply.

All the templates are cut for the rest of the checker plate.

loving this car! where did you find the extra tailgate? did you nab those wheels of the rocco up in smithy's?
