Have you had the wheel alignment checked? (Tracking). A lot of tyre places will check it for free, but charge if it needs adjusting. If you're toeing out or in too much, that could cause the squeeling noise.

It would have to be out quite a bit for it 2 screech while driving, mine sqeeled lots when i was 19deg out thanks to a MK2 arm. I own a mk3 BTW. lol

it could always be your camber if it was fine before and the suspension has been off if its not set right it can cause it

check your tyre pressures

yes if your wheels Toe out or in to much the wheels will screech. if you are local to maidstone in west kent bring it over to me and i will check it for you and adjust it if need be.

if it still screeches after that you know thats not your problem!

are they screeching wen you are flat out ragging it round a roundabout

cheers for that I am very greatful, I am fairly far off so will stick it in my local. Cheers

out of interest, what tyres you got fitted?

If they are Michelin Energys, then they screech at low speed, and amazingly get tyre squeal in the wet.

And I'm not the only one who has found this lol

Not cross ply perchance?

that i'd like to see

Bang on Michelins and they only screetch at low speed ????? cant understand that :doubt:

mine sreech alot, i just put it down to having really cheap crappy tyres.

my golf used to screech when i had cheap tyres on but went away when i got decent ones fitted

I made an observation about tyres the other day while I was at cheshire oaks. there is a tight corner in the carpark near Virgin XS (I think thats the place) and all the cars with cheap tyres squealed going around this corner into the first row of parking spaces, the cars with more expensive tyres didn't squeal at all while taking this tight turn.

In short better tyres = better grip and less squealing.
