On my MOT, it said wheel bearing has slight play and that was 510 miles ago. The car wobbles now a bit now when I'm going 50 or more and then again when braking at those speeds. Jacked the car up and the O/S rear wheel wobbles a lot.

Could it be the wheel bearing? Do you have to replace both sides or can you get away with replacing just the one? Is it an easy DIY job, or should I go to a garage for it? What would be the rough cost do you reckon? My cars a 96 1.4 8v Polo. Cheers

defiantly the wheel bearing I would say. Depends how capable you are with cars as to it being a DIY job. Not sure on the prices of bearings tho

bearings cost me £8 a wheel on my g40, its an easy job to do. its just i cant be asked to do it!

I would do both as an axle set if you dont know if the others have ever been done

I've looked in the Haynes and it doesn't look THAT bad actually for me to do, considering I've never really done that much mechanically to cars.

anywhere 4 the split pins. Those little packs in halfords & the like R expensive. I get mine from 1 of those cheap £ shops,scrooges,wilkinsons & the like

any motor factors should sell stuff like split pins. I woudn't bother with that one on ebay, god knows what the quality will be like and it isn't even cheap. Places like German and Swedish Car Parts sell them. Or a VW dealers.

Pretty simply job to do really. knocking the old races out of the drums and knocking the new ones in is the only part that really requires any effort what-so-ever.

Just fitted them to the wheel. The wheel still seems like some play but it's only a couple of MM compared to half an inch or so before.
