Well last night a few of us met up, i was escorted to the petrol station was fine then, then we went somewhere else and when I decided to warm up my car ready to leave...my window stopped at half way  So Phil took the door card off and had a fiddle, checked the fuses, swapped the switches round and nothing...not a sausage!I live in a council estate and I definately don't trust all the pikey chavs round here so everyone had left by now and i dont blame them it ws like 1am!! Olly & Phil proped my window up with Buffy stakes of wood and cardboard. It must be the motor, has anyone else had anything like this happen? I guess its a silverlakes jobby and get a new one. Such a nightmare, but i just want to thank everyone that help last night especially Phil & Olly for staying out until half 2 this morning to help!! I owe you two big time!! xxxx

yeh I've had the problem with both my windows now!! right royal pain in the arse!

i thought it was the motors but i tested them and they were fine and all worked. so i just took everything apart regreased the cable runs and motor winding, put it back together and all worked again.

hope it helps, its worth a try before buying new motrs and mechs

it hadnt come off the runners and they tried everything so it must be. The other one is in perfectly good workin order! Thank you though xx

My dad used to have a mk4 saloon and this happend quite often on the passenger side window and so every now and aegean wean it stoped working I took off the door cad and tapped the motor with a hammer and then it would work fine untill it did it 6 months later and the tapped it with a hammer once more wean it stoped working every now and aegean

I bought the same kit and fitted it to my friends Polo 6n 8v. She had the same problem with the motor locking either in the open or halfway position and sometimes if lucky in the closed position.

The problem is that the motor cog inside is crap and gets blocked easily as the teeth on the cogs weren't right when produced. VW used to fit the repair kit under warranty or at their descretion. Most dealers don't have a clue about this and will try and sell you a new motor!

It's a few hours work and it helps if there are two people as the whole mechanism has to come out the motor taken apart and the cog replaced and greased up. Also the window needs to be removed from the mechanism.

You'll need about £27.56 for the kit and shed loads of patience. Make sure you cover the whole mechanism with WD40 and especially the bolts that clamp the window to the slider mechanism as they'll be rusty.

no lol I'm just trying to sort wheel issues out atm, I've put the door card back on so it looks a bit better. I cant sort that until i get the money so that will have to wait...its a bit chilly atm anyway and i'll just make sure i dnt go to any carparks with barriers or drive thrus
