how long have i got before it does

engine has only been running about 1000 miles??

Tbh you may have damaged a piston buy now or at least a ring

Hmm... You'll know if you've melted a piston or not :lol:

For the sake of £20 tops, I'd get it sorted out though.

Will am maybe sounding a little to hard but

fuel pressures for 1.05 - 1.3 SPI are 0.8 to 1.2 bar

were as MPI are 2.5 bar on 3F and NZ polos and G40 (PY) is 1.9 bar

So your engine may have a 50/50 survival rate at the moment

the fuel pressure isnt the problem, its the quantity of fuel that the pumps deliver that matters.

if you're just driving like a granny and not going on boost you'll probably be fine with either of the inline fuel pumps.

you wont have any problem at all mate! its a club polo myth!... the fule pumps pump at the same rate, why do you think there are fule pressure regulators on the injectors,..............thats what changes the pressure not the actual fule pump. but like i said the inline pumps are exactly the same,. there might be different codes as for mpi and spi pumps but so far,.. 3 of my close friends have had no problems using "spi" fule pumps on their GT's and considering the gt and g40 are "the same" id say your fine.

GTs and G40s are a different matter. You're unlikely to melt a piston on a GT unless you've got some MENTAL advance lol.

I suggest you go and buy a G40, get a smaller pulley, run it on an SPI pump and get yourself a rare 3 piston PY engine...

haha funny! NOT,... what IF a g40 inline pump begins to fail.... how does it fuel the car,..ummmmmmmmmmmm just like normal!!!! youll still have the same pressure being sent to the injectors via the pressure regulator just might take a bit longer to build up!!!

yeah you might be fine on a GT but probably not with a G40, because they require twice the amount of fuel on boost as a 1.3 spi engine does. 115 bhp as opposed to 55bhp.

people have tried runnning spi pumps on modified g40's and have definately had problems in the past.

i have run a good few pumps on my car.... that being a 1.3 GT running close to 90bhp, and now on the GT with the Eaton.... no approx bhp at the min... but says good bye to alot... and iv had NO problem with the pump.... ohh did i mention it was a 1.0 SPI pump? :lol::lol::lol:

IF a spi pump is fine for a GT

then how is it that they wont run a g40,........WHICH has a lower pressure than a GT!!!!!!

I'm not the only person who thinks some of the stuff on here is bull,.. but we put up with it! half the advice on here is given by people who read and never do try what they suggeust! in the case for the fule pumps you have just been owned! again i quote "a spi pump .8-1.2bar will run a gt at 2.5bar" but not "a g40 @ 1.9bar" o0o0o0o0owoooooooooooooooooo g40!! wow it runs a lower pressure,.. if thats all the case and they WONT work why the fuk have a fule pressure regulator!!! ITS in the name because it regulates the VARYING fule pressure to make sure the injectors have a constant feed!! oh sorry wait i dont know anything because i spend more time working on my canr and obtaining a degree in motorsport engineering and designe than reading half the bull on here! you guys need to get back to basics and think out the box! a G40 is nothing more than a GT with a super charger!!! A GT is only a 1.3"spi" with multi point fule injection controlling both ignition and fule!!!

OK, I'm happy to hear that you have had good experiences using SPI pumps on MPI cars. But at least admit it must be hard for me to believe you when the rest of the forum denies what you say!

Sure, this place is full of shit, if I'd ever have listened to everyone on here I wouldn't have a 1.0 spi Mk3 that goes the way it does. But there are also a lot of people who know what they are talking about.

i dont deny it must be hard but youve just answered yourself as for the 1043 case which is also a on-going myth as for just replaceing the engine! this place is full of shit,. but back on topic! again you DONT have to listen to me! go by the book!! as was quoted earlier a spi pump will work with a GT!! but it wont run a G40 which needs,. i quote " a G40, because they require twice the amount of fuel on boost as a 1.3 spi engine does" SO?! therse are BOOK figures VW figures.......... does a GT not run again at a higher rate of pressure compared of that tp the G40?!?!?!?!?!

But the point isn't the pressure, but the flow rate as I understand it? I don't know. I'll stick to bolting things on to cars and hoping for the best, rather than arguing the toss.

the fuel pressure of the pumps is irrelevant as both pumps may be able to pump well over 4 bar, what is the difference is the amount of fuel they displace.

think of it like air compressors, an industrial one and a 12v one for pumping car tyres up can both have a pressure of 6 bar, but you cant spray paint a car with a 12v compressor as it does supply enough air to operate the spray gun.

yet either compressor supplies enough air to paint with an airbrush

flow rate will be the same! its controlled by the regulatorrrrr! or is that a :shock::lol:
