I've got a 6n2 1.4 16v. its got 16'' alloys on it with 195 /45 /16 tyres on it . I've nevr had a problem with my arches rubbing. but i noticed driver side tyre when turning right ONLY decides to rub excessively. i have no problem when turning left. as of this morning I've noticed that its created a big rip in my inner arch. took it to local garage and the muppet started going on about takin it to vdub muttering about wheel geometry!!!????. i they already make a mint off me for sevicing etc . can someone pls HELP me

Is the car lowered atall?

get 195/40 tyres when your current ones are worn out

Ok, so its going to be one of 2 things.......

1) Wheel geometry is off and the wheel is sitting too far forwrad or backward, in or out

2) Body work has moved.

To give you na exmaple when I fitted new tyres to my Polo, 185/55-14 the back rear started to rub on the mupflap. All looke fine but upon closer inspection it had warrped and was now in a position to rub on the tyre under heavy suspension compression.

A screwdriover and stanley knife sort that out.

If you can provide some more detail, such as car lowered? (as above), whats rubbing on what, where on tyre is the rubbing, where on car is rubbing? get a pic or 2 of both areas of conatct, ie car and tyre we might be able to better understand what is going on.

Also, do cars drive fine? ie, is it pulling left or right, is there any vibration, noise or what-not that wasn't there before (not when turning)?

thnx 4 quick reply. no the car is not lowered. the tyre is only rubbing when turnin to the right its the outer side of the tyre thats rubbing against the driver side tyre only. i dont even have to turn it on full lock for it to rub. middle of the arch is rubbing at the bottom where the black bit screws on .
