Tough steering - camber?

Featured Replies

I installed some new shocks on the front of my car. I then had the tracking done on the car and need the camber doing also (local garage doesnt adjust the camber so i have to take it to another one).

I drove the car today, after it had its tracking fixed and felt that the steering was unusually heavy. It wasnt like this before i had the tracking done, Is this because the camber needs adjusting? I'm booked in to do that on friday.

Is the camber at fault for the heavy steering? - The steering wheel also started vibrating at >50mph

i would have said that once the camber gets adjusted your going to have to get the tracking done again

different amounts of camber on each wheel will definatly impact turning, however a small amount of negative camber (a degree or two) on each wheel can aid turn in on corners... quick visual check can be done by looking at the front of of the car to see if the wheels look wonkey. if you have a flat faced wheel you can sit a spirit level and get a rough guess at the camber, you should be able to see if they are immediatlly done.

how much did you pay for your tracking?

wheel vibrating at high speed is usually tracking or wheels being improperly balanced, but could be caused by camber being out

paid £18 for it.. steering was fine before nice and light but its tracking was very out. It's heavy after having the tracking done. Feels heavier when steering right other than left.

sweet 18 quid is a good price to pay for tracking...

deffo imagine it would be the camber, do either of the wheels look significantly wonky?

take it to a place that will sort your camber and then let us know how you get on

and ignore the tool above, he'll be getting getting kicked off soon enough

ps while they are there just get them to check the front wheels are balanced, they will just stick in on a machine and tell you, if they need weights itll be pennies, wheels can sometimes throw weights if they are just stuck on in the rim
