my OCD-cleaning/ improvement spree

Featured Replies

engine bay looks well good mate, you can get good money for detailing peoples engine bays.

it does take a fair amount of elbow grease without a doubt but the end result is worth it wooot

whooops currie bout the hole in the water bottle, charlie jetwashed the engine of dennis when she got it and i was a bit wary of doing it and still dont think i would. far too easy murk various electrical conncetions and cos you cant vary the pressure of those jetwashes its a bit sketch

my engine bay was pretty clean as i had taken most of the bits out of it while working on it but i spilt brake fluid a bit over my gear linkages which were all new spangly bits of metal and its made them gay rat look.

DOT fluid sucks!

I'm also a bit dubious about jetwashing the bay. A can of water dispersant, a bit of 'ol rag, a bifter and lots of elbow grease seems a far friendlier option.

yeh random badger you got the hole in one :D

every mundane job on the car is spiced up by gettni baked mid job

woooop

Thnaks for all the nice comments guys really appreciated :-)

well just few towels of various sizes cotton wool buds for the fiddley bits (still looks crap) and meguires paint cleaner and thats it really and meguires elbow grease as i seem to have run out :-)

wooot its a diesel!!! use a jetwash!

i just did my golf and it came up a treat - only snag i jetwashed a hole in the washer bottle!

yer its never been jetwashed just alot of elbow grease i tried on a box i removed from the mini (in the same condition as the olo) and it just made it wet it isent actually dirty just oxidized. thank sthough mate.

Engine bay looks awesome!! Pressure washer would've been easier but prolly wouldn't finish as well.

What are the 1.9d's like? Really rubbish? What kinda MPG do you get?

and yer probably would of been easier but wheres the fun in that

and sorry mate I'm only 16 so as of yet dont no what they are like i have driven it around our field and it is fairly slow not a patch on valvers but imo diesels are alot easier to work on and alot more reliable than valvers... :-)

u breaking it by any chance mister pinches :lol:

no?

I'm guessing by teh question mark you are wondering y? well I'm planning on getting quite a few bits chromed as tuning is completely out the question so I'm just gna get it presentable for shows e.t.c.

oh and also abit abit of advice please, I'm spraying all the blue caps in the bay and some other bits satin black so they dtn stand out as much i was just wondering how to do it? do i:

clean grease off with abit of petrol on a rag

apply a couple of coats of plastic primer

wait over night to dry sand smooth to get rid of the rippled affect in the plastic

apply a couple of coats of satin?

Shiny bits and tidy black bits will look sweet, its suprising how much of a difference just changing rusty bolts makes

Edited by randombadger69

yer i hope so and thanks.

surprisingly though i didnt have any rusty bolts... this is a daily car and is an R reg on 50k mileage wise so its surprisingly clean under there

Edited by POLOMON

thats nice.

Painting plastic stuff:

Clean it and sand the surface smooth. Give it a couple of light dustings of plastic primer, and sand off any flat spots. Give 2 proper coats of plastic primer, and when dry key the primer with some fine grade of sandpaper. Paint your desired colour, with multiple thin coats.

That's my method. Worked on my oil cap so heat obviously isn't a problem.
