Should be sticking my Driver steels on soon, trouble is the TREAD sticks out about 5mm if that, with a max. legal stretch. I'm looking into getting the arches pulled slightly, but until then is it a license loser if pulled over, in the same way as bald tyres are 3 points per wheel?

What do you mean max. legal stretch? There is no illegal stretch, only TuV guidelines which don't apply in this country anyway!

And you must have some Landy arches you can bolt on for now

Well OK, max stretch with TUV if you're gonna be picky! I just assumed it was the maximum 'safe' stretch, i dont wanna be in fear of losing my tyres!

If the tread sticks out, its illegal and you could get 3 points per wheel

The wheel is allowed to protrude the arch as is the "stretch" of the tire, but the tread it's self must not

so is thread not allowed to sick out just at the top or the whole way round the arch?

its illegal yep, but depends on the copper I'm running 8inch with et 0 on the back on my mk4 polo n the tred sticks out. had them on 4 6 months touch wood not been done yet.. but yep if the cops a nice person its a lisence looser

My wheels are 8" wide with 195/45/14, and the equivalent to ET-13!

The tread sticks out 5mm at the most.

It's to do with debris being flicked up at people if the tread protrudes the arches isn't it?
