I've seen on a punto and loved it? any ideas wether it is legal or not?

i saw this on a tt i think and they had a little mirror on the window and it look really nice. I'm only guessing but id say it would be illegal/MOT fail

I think you have to have one or the other ie a rear mirror or side..

But not sure

I remember my uncle moaning that he couldnt drive his metro because i broke the remaining mirror off(rear view) back in my childhood. So maybe you can?

you have to have 2 mirros... i only have the centre rear view in the mini but oh well

go hava word with ure local mot center.. sure they will set u straight.

i thought you had to have 2 to pass the mot, doesnt matter which 2 though!

lol well i dont think the insurance companies would cough up the dough if they knew you drove round with 2 massive blind spots on either side of the car :p

well my min iwas registered in 1967 so didnt have any external ones as far as I'm aware thats what I've told moters and they believed it anyway lol

vans might be differant mate,iv hired a few before and they dont have any in the cabin,obviously cos the vans sealed off in the back.

I've a brand new t5 which is sealed still has rear view mirror though, early derbys etc over here didnt have a n/s mirror had the other 2 though

Commercial vehicles are obviously a special case, if there is no interior mirror, then both external mirrors have to be fitted. I think this rule used to apply to cars too, but was changed so an interior mirror must be fitted.

That'll be UK spec Testarossa's in the mid 80s,then. It was internal only until circa 1970,interior and offside until circa 1990,then all three.

That is,on new cars - and the passenger external might be legally removable,as with the reverse lamp. The drivers side most certainly is not.

But i think its like the seat belt and fog light law,where you have to have one fitted if it had them fitted as standard.

Polomon's mini didnt need a fog light either,and had it been registered in 1962 it wouldnt have to have front seat belts fitted either.

Also, if you take any mirror off that was standard fit, you must tell the insurers. If you have a big one and the engineer (who they seem to always send out these days) notices, your claim will invariably be refused for 'failure to disclose'.

That is exactly what I have been told as well. You must have at least 2 mirrors. One must be the drivers side mirror and then either a passenger side mirror or a rear view mirror (or both).

Sure? My dad runs a '72 Daimler XJ6. Used to have wing mirrors, but the wings rotted at the holes.. He took them off when he had the wings changed ('87 I think) and has had just interior ever since. Passes MOT every year...

Sucks for motorway driving though!

it depends on the age of the car. They will test the vehicle to the standard at which it was classed when it was built, so rule changes don't affect older cars. for example, if my testarossa (wishful thinking) didnt have a nearside mirror, then the uk government decided that to pass an MOT new cars should have all 3, i wouldnt have to sellotape a new one on because my car was built before the legislation.

but to finalise it really, its what is coming up a lot. New cars and anything past the latest legisation MUST have the drivers side mirror and AT LEAST one other.

I really want to do this! If its legal..
