broken subframe bolt (6n)please help

Featured Replies

hi all,

just bought myself a nice little 6n,low milage,service history,electric pack model ,dark interior , thought i had found myself a little bargain until i gets home and jacks it up to fit my bbs wheels ,when i drop the car back down i notice that the camber is all wonky , 1 wheel has positive camber and 1 wheel has about 6 degrees of negative camber , under furthar investigation it turns out that the rack (pas) has been replaced recently and the cowboy that fitted it has cut the head off one of the front subframe mounting bolts ,

my question is i now have a subframe mounting bolt that has no head and as a result no way of winding it out ,anyone got any ideas as to how i could remove it without resorting to drilling it and re-tapping the thread . i have about 3 " of the bolt shank protruding from the chassis so do have something to work with .

any help on this subject would be most appreciatted

Vice grips? Clamp them to the remaining part of the bolts and wind it out?

try above with a bit of heat too {shure you can get a blowtorch from somewhere}

weld the head off another bolt to it

cheers for the answers people but I'm afraid its turned out to be more serious than first thought, turns out the captive nut inside the chassis has come free allowing the bolt to just spin so it looks like my little bargains about to get expensive *sadface*as i would imagine the only way to rectify this will be to cut the chassis leg and fabricate a new section of chassis with a captive nut on it
