hi, I'm looking to buy 16" alloys for my 1998 6n.

when i have bought these i want to lower the beast.

if i lower it 40mm with 195/45/16 tyres on would these rub if i have a full car of people, or if i go over speedbumps?

It will most probably rub with the tyre size you have. Mine's lowered 70mm on 16s but with 195/40/16 tyres and I only get random rubbing on the front right hand side when going around a corner abit too fast. I can also have 3 passengers without any trouble - never tried 4 'cos I don't like a full car.

I know mine's a 6N2 but the arches are basically the same size as far as I know.

I had 16's on my polo which i took off a few weeks ago. At 40mm i don't think you will have any problems on 195/45/16 tyres, don't quote me on that though. I was down about 70 mm and had to get my arches rolled with 195/40/16 tyres, the ET was 25 though which is another thing you will have to take into account.
