hi I'm going to buy a private plate next month, and i was wondering how i go about doing so. on the website where I'm purchasing the plate from, its got a form i have to fill in.

what i want to know is do i have to alert DVLA to the fact that I'm buying a new plate or does the company i buy the plate from do that for me? do they automatically send me a new V5 document?

The company can do it all for you for a fee or you can get them to post you the paperwork and go to your local DVLA office and do it yourself.

They will send you a new V5 and give you a new MOT certificate and Tax disc with the new reg no on.

is that what the £80 transfer fee includes? or is it on top of that? thanks for your help

Most places charge it on top however DVLA include it.
