can you fit a 6n2 gti suspension to a 6n2 1.4 (without problems and without having to buy anything other than the actual springs and shocks)?

You should be able to as they both the same chassis. I've noticed that quite a few aftermarket suspension kits are the same for both the 1.4 and 1.6 (GTi included), although some differ.

I need to find out the spec of the shocks as i think they'll be just a smidge stiffer, and combined with a set of 30mm lowering springs would make a better option than just fitting the Polo GTi suspension which is only 15-20mm lower I believe.

I've found out that Boge do uprated, gas pressurised shocks for the 1.4 16v, which would be an alternative if you didn't want to go for a full on kit, plus Boge are reliable as replacement (OEM ish) standard shocks.

If I were you I'd invest in a set of springs and shocks as the GTi suspension really won't be that much of an improvement over your standard suspension.

As said above it's only slightly lower - iirc 25mm lower and they're not that much stiffer at all.

i have actually got an aftermarket suspension kit on my car, however, its terrible and its too low, so i was thinking about putting a gti suspension kit on there, which seems like a compromise between the standard tractor height suspenion, and my current suspension (which is too low for what i use the car for).

I'm not too bothered what the handling of the gti suspension is like.

neway, does anyone else out there know for sure whether or not its a straight swop from a gti to a 1.4?

Can't think of one reason why not. Both cars come from the same production line. If both are a 6n2 then it should fit no probs. The things iw aht suspension do you have. The GTi suspension was the lowest out of the factory with the other 1.4 cars getting tractor like suspension.

If yours is lower, why ? maybe you need some normal springs!!!

Get new top mounts as a matter of course. You should get the ones for the GTi suspension.

I purchased brand new OEM top mounts for my GTi when I upgraded to coilover suspension last December. All the required parts came to £56 including delivery from VAGparts :-)

How low is your car just now?

-40mm on something like a Koni kit would probably be fine. Plus it has to be cheaper than a full set of shocks and springs from VW.
