i recently did some parts our breadvan with rustoleum paint, its cheap and easy to use and leaves pretty good results, it also claims to protect and slow up existing rust

you can paint directly over bare metal and filler or they do a primer if you want to use that too, it covers really well and even brushes on well if you use a nice brush. several thin coats work best and once hard you can flat and polish it like proper car paint

costs about £12 per litre and you can tint it with airfix paints ...i added a spot of black n yellow to match my alpine white

maybe not good enough for a nice show car...but its good enough for old rats n bangers etc

Ha ha ha ha!! Have been waiting for this thread!! Some sweet colours there as well!! May finally see some random coloured polos instead of just matt black.

Thing i took from the huge thread on it "the trick is to have the paint really thin, thin as possible but doesn't run. Then when applied the paint self levels and goes on like glass...."

Sounds good to me. Few tins thinned up and a good roller and you will be laughing!!

That photo of the orange charger is awesome and if you can get that sort of finish with a roller and cheap paint then ther is no arguement for not doing it!!

Lets get some purple and orange and mad brown polos out on the streets!!

its not quiet roller it on and it looks like glass

its roller it on x2....wet flat it all....roller more on ...flat it again and so on until its covered

then flat it with 1500 or so and polish it up

tbh...id prob lend a spray gun if could and bang a few coats on and leave it at that

Well obviously as said there is a little more work to do than what i said but i was just pointing out that it must be better than rattle cans.

I would personally spray it as well. I am going to roller a spare bonnet though as a taster.....will show how i get on.

i bought a brush for £5 and can get it sweet enough for valances n sills etc...just keep sanding it smooth between coats, thin coats dry hard fast, thick ones take ages and louse it up

one tin goes a long way so you can have a good play

I cant beleive that thread is 43 pages long!! The paint finish they are getting looks awesome, I'm definetely going to use this technique when Iv fully prepared my Hillman Imp. Theres no way I'm going to be able to afford to pay a professional. Even if the technique doesnt work that great for me, for 50quid its definetely worth a try!
