Crashed my polo, what do i do now...

Featured Replies

So, Polo Mk V, worth about £4300 which i put into a wall. Been quoted 2 grand to get it repaired, and that will take til about xmas time..

I have a £700 excess on my insurance, so in theory i could claim on that and get £3.5k and just look for another car (although pushing premium up...).

Thoughts anyone, if i wait to get it fixed id prob need to claim repairs off insurance since i dont have the £2k kicking around at the moment... How much is my premium gonna go up? pay something like £1100 fully comp at the moment.

And if i make a full claim and look for a new car, what do i do with the old polo?

If you make a claim you will get your car back repaired and it will cost you £700 (your excess). You will only get the full £4300 (and they will probably value it less than you think it's worth) if the cost to repair is the same as or more than the value of the car and it is written off. If it is written off it belongs to the insurance company and they will take it away. If you claim it will save you £1300 (£2K minus your excess). You need to work out the extra cost in premium and lost no claims (if you have any) over the next few years. If you decide to claim don't leave it too long before informing the insurance. If no one else was involved and you pay for it yourself don't tell the insurance company. If you tell them they will still put your premium up because you are an increased risk even though you didn't claim off them.

My premium hiked up by £600 when i crashed and claimed if thats any use to you...who are you insured with?
