More updates this evening. Didn't bring my camera last night.

ok so been in work the past few days so not a great pile done.

I arrived at my workshop to find my wee cousins had been doing some work to their go kart (note the axle stands lol)

the car is now up in the air supported by the wheels ready for the sills to be removed tomorrow.

I tidied up the engine loom and now need to paint eh engine and box again

also have the wiring pushed back into the main part of teh car from the bay to be run down the outer wing and most of teh floor seam sealer stripped and also abit in the bay firewall as shown:

I recieved my polishing kit today too so I'll post a few pics of the work done with it shortly too.

dude crates are strong as fuck. they're also more stable than axle stands lol. the only reason I'm using them is cos the handbrake is snapped and they're stopping it rolling off the blocks onto me lol.

Got a good run at the car today. managed to get the passenger side sill (the worst one) totally removed and the new 6n2 sill mostly shaped to fit. they're very similar but my no means a straight fit.

Decided to give the polishing ago tonight too. I sanded down the rough cast marks on my new steering rack and got the buff onto it. I'll be able to work better what the buff is mounted on the bench and not resting on the floor but not bad considering its the first of 4 stages:

With me getting pretty much full time hours in work at the minute i've had v little time to myself so I've just been doing small odd jobs here and there.

Got the engine prepped and painted satin black:

Next up was to replace all the inlet and exhaust manifold bolts and studs with stainless steel allen bolts:

Played about abit more with the wiring loom for the engine and i'm now let with this. Still not 100% happy but getting there:

Finally after deciding not to polish the dizzy i painted it satin black and fired the semi polished rocker cover on for an idea of what it'll look like:

Tomorrow I'm finally off work so i'll get to start welding the new sill into place

Looking good man! are you seam welding in the seals? Have you thought about removing the skuttle? I'm following this thread intently as I plan to smooth my bay over christmas, I'm planning a slightly different approach but I'm in two minds as whether to loose the skuttle or not :/

Yeah seam welding them in. Started today and have the whole sill tacked into place. Just need to welded it up properly.

I'd thought about getting rid of the scuttle panel but i'm in two minds. Mike has his removed and I think with some cars it works and others it doesn't. I just can't make up my mind about the Polo bay.

I haven't been updating lately but I've been working flat out. Been patching the parts of the floor that were bad and working at the sills. Tomorrow should see me near finished with that thankfully as i'm fucked off welding upside down and getting burnt.

Taking a break from being underneath the car I decided to start the revised plans for my bay. Got some sheet metal and made a few templates and cut and bent this by hand and got it tacked into place today. looks alot better shape already imo. It'll extend right over to the inner wing at the end:

Finally got some rubber caps and got my expansion bottle blanked off rather than dicking about with looping the system:

My new brake line arrived too. Was going for stainless steel but was really difficult to find so I went for cunifer which isn't as bright as stainless but isnt as brown as the copper line:

Ok so not much of an update. Was patching away at the floor today and got it mostly finished. Got to removing the driver side sill and thankfully it's in alot better condition that the passenger side. The rocker part at the end is fucked but won't be hard to replicate in sheet steel. Bar that it should be a straight forward fit.

I also quickly (hence the kinked pipes) mocked up where the new brake lines will run roughly in the bay. This also shows the difference between the copper/nickel pipe and pure copper pipe. The copper/nickel one also polishes up to a high shine compared to the copper:

Few more updates.

Found a nice we spot to mount the coil so it's not mounted on the fire wall and having leads run through the bay:

I cut and ground off the unused brackets on the firewall. Just need to get the rest of the bastid seam sealer off round the edge:

After gathering up the last of my exhaust bends I needed I decided to mock up my exhaust:

Next I decided to make a start on my side exit exhaust. I've a real hatrid for them hanging down below the sill as it looks such a half assed job so I knew I'd have to notch the sill. Plus with the car being low it would have caught everything. Shitting myself I slowly got to work and I'm now left with this:

Today I started to change one of the most annoying parts of the bay. Previously we'd plated over the battery tray and it was always too square looking for me so I cut it out and started to replate it for a smoothed more flowing look:

Girlfriend borrowed my camera so I appologise for the awful pics now.

I've been working on the bay again and its coming on well now. passenger side chassis leg and half the rear fire wall are nearly done. I welded up the holes for the brake lines to run through too which is alot better looking.

Offered up the mk4 Golf dash for a test fit. I think it looks pretty good

I've been continuely buying bits and pieces as I go along too (nice way to leave yourself skint lol) and I picked up the braid for my new wiring loom and a new gold plated autoleads battery terminal

Yeah I'm a big fan of the dash myself. The dash is for the missus's vento so if she doesnt want it I'll buy it off her and if she does I'll be buying one myself. Either way it's gona have a mk4 golf dash lol
