This evening I got the rest of the driver side of the engine bay welded up and started to fibreglass it. Not much more work now to finish the bay.

While I was waiting on the fibreglass going off I split the headlights and sprayed the inside of the lenses to tint them. Turned out pretty well for 5mins work.

Yeah I'm a big fan of the dash myself. The dash is for the missus's vento so if she doesnt want it I'll buy it off her and if she does I'll be buying one myself. Either way it's gona have a mk4 golf dash lol

The current plan is to get the bay done now, paint the bay and get the engine back in and then i can wire the engine and dash. The body work can come after that.

Here's the story from my last update, lots of shit luck.

I got a few days off work thinking I'll crack on with the Polo, my mk2 daily decides to blow it's engine. Totally fucks me up for 2 weeks without transport til I got another engine.

Got round to sanding and repolishing my rocker cover. It's not perfect but it's not a perfect base to work off either so I'll keep an eye out for one without any deep marks in it:

Finally settled on a colour, BMW Melbourne red as seen below on my servo. Lovely colour, the only down side being every time I sprayed the bay it reacted badly. After 3 attempts and advice from a bodywork friend it still wasn't happening so I through the head up and went back to army green. TBH I'm so glad cos the new shade is darker that before and I miss the colour:

I got some powdercoating done too, engine mount and gearbox mount. I was going to do the subframe but it isnt in great condition so I'm going to get one done sometime later in the year, hammerite did the trick for now.

Then when removing the subframe for painting the captive nut came loose meaning cutting open the subframe mount.

Tonight I started my wire tuck. I bored a hole in the inner wing to allow the wiring to pass from the cabin to the inner wing then cut and rejoined and lengthened and shortened each wire to suit. Once everything was all heat shrinked the modified loom was wrapped and cable tied up out of the way and will be hidden behind the arch liner once refitted.

Engine in this week and get it back on the ground

Glad your still doin it. Does look good. The captive but came loose on two of my subframe bolts. And the amount of rust it had just got to me and I scrapped mine. I tried removing the sills but they wer well attached so I am just getting new sills as I bought another that hasn't got rust or if it has not much. So at this current time I think you may be one of the only 6n with gti sills.

yeah i know the feeling pal just trying to get what i can do done on mine at the mo slowly coming on but will get there :)

Ok so not much has happened this last while. I've been flat out helping the girlfriend build her 6 stud Vento for UD and Dubshed and tbh I've sort of sickened myself abit of cars (1st time I've ever said that ). I'll post up updated from the last one and I'll start into the car again hopefully sunday as I'll be off

After we painted the bay we cut a new hole at the back of the bay for the engine loom to run through:

Once we had it through I decided to seperate the loom into each component it was running to, braid it and heatshrink it:

The brakelines were then cut to length, polished, made up and installed:

The subframe and steering rack was then bolted up followed by the engine:

Also once the polished rocker cover, clips, stainless bolts etc were fitted my standard, cast master cylinder looked cack so it was whipped off and given to my dad. After 5 hours sanding and polishing here are the before and after shots:

The front panel is on and all wired up but I've no pics of it at the minute. Next up is the finish the rear arches, cut the bottoms off the wings and paint it.

Still looking in vain for new wheels :(

Cheers Harry. I was looking at yours, mine and mikes playing spot the difference lol. I decided to widen the tops of my chassis legs to make them look beefier.

Dave the rims are off a Mitsubishi L200 pick up and are powdercoated polish/chrome effect.

Cracking away when I get a chance. I'll be back at it tomorrow again.

Removed the exhaust manifold to polish it again properly as it'd been touched before starting and was badly tarnished. Fully sanded with 240 on the DA up to 1200 then onto the polishing wheels. Here's before and after:

To make things handy I removed the front panel to get the manifold off. When I had it off I texture painted it and the timing belt cover and a few other engine plastics to match the tops of my carbs:

Fatman called out and lent me his brain and we got the problem of mounting the alternator sorted. Pivoting on the bottom rather than the top. It'll all be stripped, tidied with the grinder and powdercoated but it's grand for now:

Been playing about with sorting my suspension set up. A pair of these might help :

I did abit more at the bodywork earlier and now i've to mount the driver side door and cut the bottom of the wing off to suit and then it's ready to paint

Some late night tinkering seen me removed my newly fabbed up alternator bracket and it's now black and the alternator casings are crinkle finish as seen below:
