Finally after fighting with numerous seized/rung/fucked nuts, bolts, and general bits and pieces and taking the grinder to the track rod end the engine is sitting ready to lift out. hopefully get the winch set up and lift it out tomorrow or wednesday then i can get welding. thank fuck.

Thank god to get posting some sort of decent update. Myself, Brian and my dad finally got the engine pulled out today. Now the fun begins :D

Another update where I feel I'm actually getting somewhere.

Started to wash off the 12 years of dirty, grime and ****e that had built up in the engine bay and chassis legs. Such a nightmare we had. Next a cut a few of the templates for some of the bigger holes to be welded over.

Next I had the wonderful task of removing seam sealer. 1st time doing this and hopefully the last. I can get at most of it with the grinder but a lot is still gona have to be removed by hand :'(

With having fork all else to do on a Saturday night I decided to take into the car for a few hours. Would loved to have worked on through the night but work at 10am so had to come home. Apologies in advance for the low quality pictures, I forgot my camera.

First I finished making all the card templates for the drivers side of the engine bay. I then found out i can do away with 2 of the 3 fuel lines running up into the bay from behind the chassis leg so I could do away with the wiring of the N75 valve for them. With this done I could run the single plug for the brake fluid bottle through a grommet rather than the original place. This is shown below. I'll then weld up the original hole.

I used an electric file to remove the rest of the seam sealer and a few wee brackets etc

Next I started to make the templates into the proper metal pieces. Below shows the rear of the chassis leg with and without the plate. The engine mount will be squared off when I'm filling it over too.

Should get the rest cut out tomorrow and maybe start welding too.

Also i want to drive round with the bonnet off at times so if paint the bay orange i'm very liable to be shot driving a green (I'm sure they'd pick white from somewhere) and orange car living in NI. lol

Got stuck in and cut the rest of the pieces out in metal. Rather than start to weld and have to go home in the middle of it I decided to start some of the filler work around the struts. This is it before sanding. Also I taped some of the metal pieces into place to give an idea of what I'm after.

Started welding the pieces into the bay and rubbing down a bit of the filler. Also received numerous fucking burns :@

love this car, seen it and yourself driving about and at a few shows, not very many nice polos over here mate gotta say yours is one of the best.

as for the orange wheels, I'm about to get mine painted st orange as soon as i get the money up, next week or 2 hopefully, i doubt many people would worry about the green white and orange but then I'm from south/west belfast lol Pink sounds well to, id go for a bright candy pink though, you can always get new stickers made up with a similar colour for far less effort than spraying the bay... but thats what i'd do.

Yeah whatever colour I go will be as bright as possible.

Right pushed on today after doing nothing yesterday. Still haven't found out how many fuel lines i can do away with so haven't got the rear of the chassis plate welded yet.

Welded up another 7 or 8 holes for brackets, clips, etc and the hole in the bulkhead then started with the filler.

Can see it starting to take shape now.
