I didn't think late Mk2s had sealed beam units? Should be Halogen... Does it say H4 anywhere on the glass of the headlights?

Or more to the point, can you remove the bulb, held in by clips with a 3 pin connector? If so, you should be able to use the bulbs without any problems...

my 88 doesnt have H4s if thats any help....the old poo style bulbs are 3 pin too so thats not a way to tell

How crap, even early Mk2s I've seen in breakers have Halogen bulbs, sad I know but I tend to pocket sidelight bulbs and the like from breakers... Obviously a lot of people choose to upgrade!

my a reg has halogen bulbs not sealed units

There is a 60/55W bulb available to replace the old style round 45W bulbs. I think these were called the P45 or Tungsten bulb.

yeah i run those with a uprated loom...they're decent enough

i guess late headlamps or new replacements will be H4 fittment

for the mk2 I know that bosch make a bulb that replaces the standard fit, if you know of a place that sells bosch bulbs then i think the part number for these was BLBHB12, I used to work in a spares shop and thats where I got mine from

My '84 mk2 takes H4 Fitments bulbs if this is any use to anyone

Same mine used to take H4 i bought some bulbs off autobulbs direct which were the bluey/white tint ones.

Then used them in my mk4

Mine had H4s with the big back plate not the small one (round bulbs) I've got alogens in now though i think their abit dull still might need to clean my lamps out!

Thanks guys but I'm still not sure what to do, My bulbs are big round ones with a 3 pin thing to connect them to the car. Will the ones in the picture fit? Thanks for your time guys

sounds like you need the ones emdee mentions, any car shop should be able to get em

Pull the existing bulb out and check?

she said big round ones...thats a tungsten bulb

the only upgrade you can do is use p45t halogens and a upgraded loom if you choose...thats what i run and they're good enough

blue /xenon look bulbs will be poor output anyway

P45tasym.gif is this what your bulb looks like?

only other way is find some polo lamps that accept the H4 fitment....then use whatever you like
