Battery tray has a hole in it

Petrol tank got some paint on it so it wont rust so quick of wean it was just bare metal

Found alot of broken glass on the floor and around the handbrake lever

Used to be a pipe hear but the rust has eaten it and the quarter pannel inside has rust but its just On the surface thank fuck

Fucking right I striped it down am a bit of a polo rapist at the moment and funny enough the gt has a full stanless on it apart from the manifold

that bit where the breather pipe goes through..... mine was about 100 times worse than that - the metal piping was there until i touched it and it just disintegrated.

the hole in the wing - fiberglass isyour friend and so is a tin of waxoyl spray!!!

good effort stripping it down. it took me a while to figure out why i could see the drivers doo through the engine bay..... LOL I'm a dumbass!

that spec of rust on the incar-side of your battery tray looks like you should give it some attention.. you really want to rustproof your battery tray before it starts rotting, easier to sand & respray inside bit too with dash out

To fix the big hole am going to use some pvc pipe and expanding builders foam so that way the breather pipe can still be used on the tank still.

And the battery tray has a hole in it so its just getting a mass of tiger seal in it.

And also I wish I had the tools for takeing out the engine so I can steam clean the engine and the bay I allso wish I had a steam cleaner to clean my engine and bay.

i was going to try the foam thing, but decided against and just fiberglassed round the plastic breather pipe (didnt fancy disconnecting all the breather pipes!!!!) at both ends of where the metal thing went

battery tray hole, i'd defaintely get that welded or give it some fiberglass loving... ... it was a right pain fixing mine as i kept having to re-do it until i welded a plate in and fiberglassed over it.

tools for taking out the engine?? you dont need many....

I'm helping my mate restore his grey G40 this winter, have also fitted new genuine front panel/wings, stripped it right back to bare, the bodyshop have just picked it up this weekend for the re-spray. Will be fun putting it back together!

am hopefully getting a car soon as my winter project.

I reckon virtually all polos are that bad on the fuel breather/overflow duct... you just never know about it until you have to cock around with em! Mine was the same.

Not a Polo, but am hopefully going to semi-finish restoring my '87 Rocco GTX (at least to a point where I can drive it!)

cool good to see you're looking after your car! mine's a rolling restoration but neglected while I'm at uni (no tools/space/time to work on it) so when I'm home over christmas it's gonna get a hardcore resto jobby :)

that pipe was completely knackered on mine, i poked my finger thru it and then the power of the dyson was more than it could handle and it just disintegrated into the bagless wonder.

(Just a wee update)

Up to now I've cleaned the radhoses and the radiator and put the hole system back together an filled it back up and I've I reconditioned the hole wiring loom with 4 rolls of self amalgamating tape so the loom looks like new. Petrol tank and hoses are all back in to but before the fuel system got put back in the old fuel filter had some kind of brown sludge comeing out of it so all the fuel lines got blasted with a steam cleaner and the fuel pumps got flushed through with white spirit.

And just yesterday the GTs engine got turn over and fired up first turn from the key :-D :-D :-D

Still got the air freshener though

I really need a project for January febuary for when i get my licence back and can afford to insure a car .

Hmm Christmas money could buy me something to play with . Unfortinatly majority of my work would be ahstetical as when it comes to engine rebuilds ect i think its best to get someone who has a better idea of what there doing to lend a hand .

I would feel so much more comfortable working on a mk3 polo but do i really want another 1 .

Yeah i started with just an engine swap and decided to do a couple of bits to it. The only thing left from before is the shell, carpet, lights and switches!

Wish id started it out as a project, rather than it turning that way... I could have taken more time over it to make it mint!

Yeah still needs two front wings and some paint tho and a bonnet cable now as the old one broke on me so I had to drill the bolts on the bonnet hinge to open the bonnet

New wings fitted got them at a very cheap price as they had small bits of rust on them and changed over the ecu chip to the standard one and car now idles better and changed the gear oil and the strange noise is no more now so am very happy for a change just now .

so that worked then? do you still wont to do that swop then??

Yeah because the ratos are a bit long in 1st 2nd and 3rd / and 4th and 5th are to short
