Restoring my GT

Featured Replies

Even with a 268 cam my car had nothing past 6.5k. 8k is only good for 1/4 mile so you can stay in 3rd.

what is the hose your using to fill the gearbox oil with. Seems to be bent in all the right places and can probably be found on a VW

Its a speare hose I had lying around its the bottom hose from the expansion tank found on polos like mine I cut it in half and as you can tell used it as a pouring spout

My GT polo restoration will no longer be continued as from now.

why not?

NNOO what happened mate?

tell tell tell, we need to know

Its got to the point now that am fed up spending money on it now.

Hydralic tappets are now noisy.

Cylinder head gasket has now failed and had to get re-placed.

There is a fueling problem some were as it likes to back fire alot now.

I noticed that the toe on the car is way out and then found a bent tie rod.

The back end of the car as a slight lean as I noticed it on a garage fore cort.

I've spent so far £500 on it and thats not incuding the new engine that got fitted in november.

My gt has allso been in the garage sense tuesday (14/2/08)

I joined here in march 2006 thinking vw polo gr8 there really reliable and everyone I've owned up to now has has cost me a fortune on garage bills and spare parts from scrap yards.

Sorry but its gotten to the point now that am now fed up of throwing my money away all the time and the polo gt has just finally cracked me.

The polos I've owned have milked my wallet for the last time.

Bye bye club polo.

Hmm yeah right.

At the end of the day, mk1s, 2s and 3s are old cars...and things tend to go wrong with old cars, whether a polo, VW, whatever...I sometimes think 'what if I'd never got into polos and fixing them- what if I'd just spent all that money on 1 car?'

Then I think 'well I wouldn't have learned 95% of what I know now if things hadn't gone wrong'...

It's all worth it when your mum asks you who taught you about engines and finds it hard to believe you just taught yourself.

i know what you mean about hte reliability myth

I've spent bout £500 in a few months purely fixing it and now the gearbox is shot so payin about 400 to get it refurbed

will be worth it when i get it back though :)

sell it to me cheap and ill sort it.

Later donger!

Craig...If you wanted reliability you should have bought a Honda mate...

When i sold you the GT there was nothing wrong with it.In fact my ex-Gf

drove it for 4 months before i sold it to you and had no problems with the car.

The problems that you've had with the car are all self inflicted Craig. If you

drive a 16year old car hard all the time...things WILL go wrong.

^^ amen to that!

u cant just get rid because it doesent go your way all the time mate. you have to keep your chin up and do the jobs it needs!

POLOS ARE SHIT

know how you feel mate, but when the suns out it just seems to be the best car on the roads....

....av had loads done to mine, wondered wether to sell and jack it all in...but av plodded on though....now "touch wood" everything is sorted.

*......waits for next failure"

It does get like that mine broke last year and i got fed up of money spending, so parked it an a corner for a year and used it as a work bench.

Then yesturday me and my mate were titting about and and it works again so polished some wheel and changed a track rod end-going for an MOT on fri and hopefully it will pass :paranoid:

What you save on petrol and insurance you pay for i parts, time and fun.

(Its fun when it works)

So are you selling it then?

When did the head gasket go? I don't understand how all these parts are falling apart on it, especially after the new engine! Ask anybody who has been in the car with me or followed me, I rag the absolute shit out my cars beyond belief, and the Golf revs harder than the GT as well - and the only problems I've had with it are the exhaust falling off every fucking week and doing in engine mounts ( realised it's coz I was using cheap mounts). The 3F motor generally doesn't break!!

So are you hitting 6-7k from freezing cold or something? Or doing your "6 second" 0-60 runs all the time

Older cars can be a bitch at times, but chances are once everything is sorted, you won't look back.

wack a list of parts up in the for sale section if you're breaking....

if you nead a hand i do not mind hellping but if you are rearl that pissed off plese let me no if you brake it mate coss there is lots of bits i cood do with

^^^

thats a well nice offer chap,

cornflakes deffo dont get downhearted, you can fix the few jobs that are wrong on the car for relative pennies just with some hard wore, get it taxed and mot'd and just enjoy driving it sensibly and instead of buying loads of new presents for teh car buy some bargains when they are cheap.

but yeh raggin a polo from cold all the time will probably just kill your headgasket, once thats sorted you should be flying again, car might be backfiring cos the timing is slightly retarded or advanced

Also the only sat bav he has is an AA Road Map, some of us find streets and roads the old fashioned way, more fun that way.... :-p

amen to that... sat navs = gheyest invention ever

and the douchebags that drive off cliffs cos the sat nav said so... dont even get me started :D

i disagree. when ever i go down south which thank god is not very often i need a sat nav to get round the fucking place. ill use one to get around birmingham when we go to the rolling road cos its a nightmare.

fair enough around your home area a map should be sufficient but travelling to an unknown place like the south where there is no free space bigger than a car parking space youve just gotta have one....

lmao stop being a girl dan ;P
