Go under your dads insurance but use direct line were you can also have your onw no claims under his name ..

Iff he has another car and insures that with them you also get a discount ..

Hi,

It is advisable that you start your own policy as soon as possible that way you can start getting your own NCB earlier.

Direct line has their named driver NCB but you will find this is not transferable to most other insurers.

Yeah go with direct line thats who I'm with.

I'm on my dads policy as a named driver, and u get to earn your own no claims..SIMPLE

Ah, but none of your mods will be insured

I'm with direct line on my mums policy..spose i'll have to change with the upcoming mods though.

ok cheers guys, is there any other insurance group that does NCB for people under parents insurance, i tink my dads under norich union.... :?

admiral do it, but the no claims is only valid with admiral.

saw that in the paper the other day, not sure how true it is - and after all, how can the insurance company prove that the named driver has been driving the car more than the policy holder?

They would have to have a box installed on the car to see who was driving when..Otherwise there is no way to tell, even the drivers on the policy may not know who drives it more!

i was thinking the same thing. there is no way the insurers will know who the main driver of the car is, unless they follow you for a while, which will be very costly and i doubt theyll do that.

Well iff you have buckets that are welded straight to the floor and you are almost 6Ft and your mum is only just 5 i think they will have a case ...

To be honest though unless you are fully comprehensive why would they want to look at your car ??

personally i would start your own policy and add your parents to it as named drivers to get the price down.

That's a good way of doing it. My mum took £500 off one policey. I took £100 off a friend policey.

CIS do NCB for named drivers. Cheapest I've had aswell.

did they start doing this recently? i was with cis for a year, and when i got my renewal quote it had gone up by £50 :disgust: so swapped over to liverpool victoria with all mods declared under my dads name £750 on a mk5 1.4 16v

They brought it in about a year ago I think. You can backlog it upto 3 years though

Probabbly the best bet there yes ..With recently speeking to police about another matter they had a bit of a problem with my quite highly modified car as my mum who was insured under the policy was unable to drive it away and she was the 1st person on the policy .. Its a shame insurance rapes you though !

you can't transfer it to another policy with another insurer though or can you? they aren't very good about mods if i remember correctly

cheers mate, Haris

Nah you can't transfer them. I don't know about the mods, I havn't declared any of mine but then mines just clear indicators and such, nothing major.
