how long until its not valid does a speeding ticket thing take?

I've heard 5 weeks and also 2 weeks, but don't know which.

a 'fixed penalty notice' like one for speeding has got to be issued within 2 weeks of the offence. if its later than that you can contest it.

other stuff like parking on double yellows comes under a different category called 'penalty charge notices' and theres a longer limit on that type, cant remember what it is though.

they've got 14 days to send you a NIP (notice of intention to prosecute) unless you got pulled over on the day and the copper gave you a NIP on the spot.

my mum got stopped on a dual carriageway for speeding they made her wait 6 months before a speeding ticket came through, she got 5 points and £300 fine!!!!

was the day before the family holiday to :(

so if you get pulled over and the officer just gives you a producer and says you will get something through the post. If I haven't got it in 2 weeks I can contest it?

if they didnt give her a NIP when she got stopped then you just got rinsed out of a load of money and points.

I'm not sure if it did have an NIP on it, I didn't have a close look. Would it have been noticeable or just like a box ticked?

i got pulled by the good old '50' and was givin a producer then 3 months later the court hearing came through

If you get caught by a speed camera and you get NIP after the 14 days is up it will still stand if they can prove they posted it within the 14 day period or there was a postal strike that delayed it, if you get stopped by the police for speeding they can give you a verbal NIP at the raod side and then they have upto 6 months to prosecute you for the offence of speeding and if they decide to add a charge of careless or driving without due care ect then there is no time limit due to the length of time any investigation may take.
