Hey guys i know its not a polo but it is a dub I'm just wondering do any of you guys know where the best place is to get polo g40 hubs and calipers as I'm trying to put these brakes on my mk3 golf and cant find out where to get them anywhere if any of you guys are selling a set or know of anyone please let me know by p.m or just post back. thanks

you cant put polo hubs on a mk3 golf they work in completely different ways!

what spec mk3 is it? mk3 polo g40 brakes are exactly the same as mk1 golf gti brakes

your car was engineered a fair few years after so the most logical upgrade for yourself would be 280mm g60 calipers or 256mms from a mk2 or mk3 golf

ill sell you vwII calipers, brackets to space them out to 280mm, 280mm discs and pads that would fit on a g40, but they wont fit on your golf... ;)

could a full brake/suspension/anti roll bar setup from a GTI or VR6 be fitted???

an complete 8v GTI without tax/test will cost you next to nowt.......and the bits you don't need will sell on forums/eBay

I'm trying to find out witch caliper and hub will fit my mk3 as the standard brakes are 1400 mk3 golf 1s wich have massive carriers as part of the hub so i need a whole new hub and caliper or another vdub/audi/seat to fit mine :-D

i will either have a hub and strut assembly off my mk3 g40 for sale with standard dampers, two new hubs and wheel bearings

or

a hub and strut assembly with wheel bearings with 600 miles on them, it depends whether i can get the dampers out of the second set i have.

Should get it all sorted within the next two weeks so will have it for sale.

Let me know (haven't got calipers etc for sale as my old ones were naff!)

p.s. ceramic (how much and where and what made you do that?!haha)

you aint gunna do it.

mk3 polo g40 part WILL NOT fit your mk3 golf - which came with the lowest posible brake setup being 256mm discs.

use as mensioned - vr6 stuff or gti brakes.

if your trying to use the 239mm ceramic discs - just because you have them - its pointless - there never gunna fit without being a waste of time/money/effort for no reward.

G40 brakes are rubbish on a Polo, they'd be even worse on a heavy Mk3 Golf. An idea worth forgetting me thinks.

I think most, if not all the mk3 golf lesser models have VWII calipers anyway. These are the same calipers as the G40.

256mm is not the smallest set up on a golf mk3 I'm not just using them because I've got the i bought the becuse i wanted them its not size that matters its power obviously you didnt know that.

who said anything about small vwII calipers? the caliper is only the carrier its what you have in the caliper and what you have powering the caliper

No, the caliper and carrier are two separate parts. Running 239 mm discs on a car that weighs probably about 1200 kg EMPTY is not a good idea. You'll get brake fade from city driving and be lucky to outbrake a train!

so what setup are you going for?

are you changing the piston in your vwII caliper? are you planning on using vwII calipers?

and whats powering them, a servo or a brake pedal bias box?

if you had wilwood 4 pots or something similar with your ceramic discs, now that would be power...

but i guarantee that a car with 256mm discs and lucas 54 calipers, will own a car running vwII calipers and ceramic discs...

simply due to the greater piston size and thus greater braking force, the increase in disc size will be negligable.

are you planning on running 13 inch wheels on your golf? if so id recommend getting some wilwood 4 pots with 247mm discs as they will be under some 13 inch wheels dependant on offset

and youngprodigys knows his stuff lad, fookin rocket engineer or some crazy shit :thumbsup:

its what you have in the caliper and what you have powering the caliper

from what i can decipher from this-

what you have in the caliper, you must be talking about the caliper in the hub - or it could be that your talking about pistons in the caliper.

you need to be clearer on what your asking!

you can ask a few people on here - i know what I'm talking about - not coz i read it elsewhere but because i have done it myself already. i wont post an answer I'm not sure about - as per forum guidelines.

Actually- it's more to do with the increase in disc size, and thus an increase in force which can be exerted onto the disc- all about leverage forces, think pushing open a gate next to the hinge, then using the same force to push it open at the other end- far easier.
