Guessing this can be cured with some WD?

It's not the brakes, just sometimes when i take my foot off the pedal and it moves back up theres a squeak..where should i put some wd40?

I get this too! I assumed it was mice living in my car.

This must be a common thing on all VW's.

My Mk4 polo does it, as does my lupo.

My old corrado & Mk2 golf also did it.

I made a (rubbish quality) recording of my squeaky pedal. This is in the footwell, it sounds clearer from the engine bay (which suggests, as I've said on another thread, that it's the clutch itself not the pedal) but it was 'king cold out.

Does this sound familiar at all?

Will listen when i get home, but from your description about the engine bay that does sound like mine. When I have the window open I can hear it from the front end of the car rather than just the footwell.

It will probably be your brake shoes if you have rear drums. Give them some grease

he he I've got a squeak too, sounds like its coming from the drums tbh but it seems a little clearer when I've got the bonnet open :S lol CBA fixing it though the breaks work.. just ha ha

just to clarify, dont smother the whole thing, especially not the braking surfaces at all, just a bit of copper slip between the shoes and the back plates should be enough.

Mine does it, it's probably the shoes moving, if you notice it will only do it when the engine is started and the cylinder's working the brakes fully, the recorded one sound like sumat else

yeh it did it on my mk4... its just friction in the rear drum brakes... as polopete said, just put a bit of brake grease/copper on the moving parts but not on the braking surface.

My brake shoes will need changing soon so i shall be greasing up, I don't fancy taking them off though, all them springs look a bit daunting!!

Take a couple of pictures of the brakes before you start work on them. Or take both drums off, work on one & use the other as reference

Is it the pedal or the brake light switch squeaking?? If its the switch squeaking as its operated by moving the pedal a squirt of lube spray should sort it out.
