when the charcoal canister is removed etc u just block the pipes up yeah? nothing special?

and the littel valve mounted on the water pipe its ok to shove a bid bolt up it and jubilee clip it?

just I'm thinking one of these areas might be making my wee gt behave badly.

The charcoal canister is the small container in offside inner wing? What are the benefits of removing it?

^^^^ its an environmental friendly thing that is fairly in effective and takes up space and has pipes going everywhere so binning it tidies things up a bit. thats all i think. no power issues.

Sounds like i'll be binning mine then. Thought about using the hole for a cold air feed.

it's to soak up fuel tank vapours which get released into the engine every so often. Only benefit from removing it is gaining some more underbonnet space.

Remove the canister and the valve, then block up the resulting vacuum pipes that are left. Do NOT block up the see through pipe which comes from the fuel tank, the fuel tank needs to breathe.

thanks hayesey that is what i have done so I'm ok their then. back to the drawing board then.

just to check the one with the valve on the water pipe it goes from the inlet manifold if i remeber right. i left the t bit alone and only plugged the T of that pipe down to the valve that sound correct?

I have just overhauled the fuel system on a mk3 and binned what i don't need on a mk2. From memory, the tank breather pipe travels underneath the car inbetween the two fuel lines (middle black pipe). IIRC it connects to the actual tank at the 3mm side spout on the filler neck. The other bigger side spout is the over flow return. The one that attaches to the rubber shrowd is the spillage drain which exits just by your rear axle.

Can't remember where my tank directly vents to air now though

i left the middle pipe in and it vents into the front wing, as well as the original tank filler. seems ok
