Can you drive yet?

I've opted for the standard G40 TCA's, G40 steering arms, H&R Cup Kit (this will prob. be a little too firm for road use...have to wait and see....maybe try Koni's or coilovers with softer springs) VW rear beam bushes. I think there is a lot to be said for brand new standard items. A lot of people are currently driving Polo's with 100k old bits of rubber holding their suspension together.

Having driven cars on lowered suspension on some of Scotland's less than favourable B roads (wel...awesome roads...tarmac could do with updating) I can confim that in a lot of cases softer is better. Nothing worse than skipping about across the road as the series of bumps you just hit totally unsettle the car.

^^ as above superflex what the heck does it all mean!! Ordering jazz can be gay!! Are they all the same size for the 86c??

ask for a diagram off them? i have a feeling they are listing mk4 stuff as mk1,2,3

okay so a little off topic, but this seems to be getting a lot of attention from people in the know :)

I've got a mk4 valver, and it's lowered 40mm on SPAX adjustable dampers and springs. Now the ride, even on the softest setting is very harsh, so much so that my dad (who drives the car mainly) is getting to original equipment put back on.

Now from what I've read here, by changing some bushes I can reduce the body roll, but keep the softness over the bumps?? If so, could someone please point a n00b in the right direction as to what I'd need to buy :) This could be the family friendly solution after all!

Cheers,

-Rich.

P.s. the prices on the "superflex" website seem very reasonable, so if they do the parts I'd need, stuff from them would be favorable :)

Tav you will not find the H&R kit too hard they are very balanced compared to others I've experienced. had a few people in my car too who have had other set ups and they have been impressed with the ride quality.

me being one. H&R kit on dans car made more of an impact on me than the engine. Cruising about its so smooth, but cant really judge for fast road use

I was bloody impressed with the H&R stuff on one of phils old cars that i drove briefly- (although i forget which one it was  ) They'll be perfect for the road, after a few years of messing around with springs rates and different dampers (and smashing my fair share of suspension components) I've settled on some spring rates which work well for me.

As for the bushes- I've got a full G40 lower arm set-up with solid bushes, and soild arb mounts, In the 10k or so they've been on the car, I've not had problems, as Steve said loctiting your bolts etc one is key- and I usually do a quick spanner check on the car every few weeks anyway.

The powerflex ones are shite, I know of about 5 people now who have ripped the tca ones apart (i think phil was most recent) after minimal miles.

The real answer- is to put all of the above in the bin, and buy a subframe

Tav. I've got the setup you've opted for but with G-laderseite ARB blocks (soon to be replaced with subframe :-D ). The H&R cup kit is by far and away the best money I've spent on the car yet. It feels soft in normal conditions, but thats only the first few cm of travel, after that it stiffens up a lot. I replaced a relatively new cheapo 'sports' suspension kit with the H&R kit and the improvement in cornering, acceleration and braking was massive. I don't think you'll regret it.
