i need to remove the glass from one boot lid and then fit it into mine, can it be done easily? what to use?

windscreen fitters either use a leccy cutter or some thin wire (mig wire will do) get the wire and force it through the sealer then wrap it around a old stick or something at each end and use it to cut like cheese wire, its fairly tough to do

the use a blade to slice off the sealer thats left on the tailgate and get some proper window adhesive ...caulk a big bead around the tailgate and plonk the glass on

you will need to let the car sit 12-24 hrs without slamming doors...and you might need a cardboard spacer under the bottom gap to stop it sagging

maybe approach a window firm with a few beer tokens?

btw put a proper fat bead on beacuse if any of it fails to make contact with the glass it will leak

I had this done recently. Guy took out the glass from one tailgate, took out the glass from the tailgate that was on the car and fitted the other glass in. He came out to my work and all in it was £55. Did a top job too, the hard bit is the seal at the bottom aparently. He did a proper good job and you wouldnt know it had been changed.

You have to watch out for the encapsulate at the bottom of the glass. It's the black strip. When I went to have my glass changed, the guy wasn't keen on doing it because he said that he was going to rip when he removed the glass, and so didn't want to do it unless I had another encapsulate. Whether its actually necessary to have it or not I don't know, but I'm sure the glass can still be sealed to the car properly without it.

Yep thats the seal I was talking about. Dont try asking VAG for one either, they only come attatched to the glass, I cant remember an exact price for the glass but it was over a hundred.

I think it would be cheaper to have the boot sprayed rather than the glass removed in your case as it is "glued" on . The paint code on the car is diffrent to thre paint it recieved when it had its blowover . Its not Alpine white it is Pearl white i think ..

It might possibly be cheaper to do that, but you will have to make sure all the wires to the screen are still intact and not been chopped like mine had, otherwise its going to be a pain to run new wires through the rubbers.

When I went to VW to ask if they had a the black strip for the window they said it would be £50, and a new window was £130.
