Wondered if i could use black vinyl to cover my rooflining in my mk3 as well, its a tad grubby in places and the linings come away next to bootlid where i replaced bootlid the other week (whoops!)

Thought about measuring the vinyl up and cutting it to shape and then glueing it to the original lining with some fabric glue or carpet glue.

Just wondered if anyone had any opinions on this ? Will it stick ok? The other half mentioned something about having to put something on it to strengthen it up so it don't sag but i can't see how it will if the vinyl backing has a thin covering of glue all over.

alright mate, do what I'm doing and get rid of the rooflining, rat style bud

if you want to repair and go to a little bit of trouble, why not retrim it or something? with some proper fabric? the vinyl idea sounds pretty easy but it'd be work to make it look good lol

don't think glue will work fella :sad: ..... aspecially this time of year with the cold weather, i don't think the glue will set

don't fancy the rat stylee matt, the car will be bloomin cold, especially when the rear seats out for the install!

I did think about stitching it into place, maybe with a VW logo in the middle but i don't intend on doing it until the weather warms up as its too bloomin cold to be messing about outside!

One way of fixing it would be Carpeting Adhesive spray.

I used it on my doorcards for my mk3 golf and it sticks well but if u get it onto the front of the fabric it can make a bit of a mess.

it holds well tho.

You can get a black headliner but to put it in properly, you have to remove the side windows and afew other bits n bobs to remove the old one and fit the new one in place!

I just wanna cheat slightly and attachthe new one over the top of the old one.

I sprayed my headlining from a mercy brown horrible colour with a smoke stain above the druver to black with some stuff from halfrords . Clean the roof lining as much as poss mask everything off then add a few coats of paint from a rattle can . Jobs a gooden ..

won't that make it sag? Did think of doing that but wasn't quite sure if the lining would go all floppy!

So can you just spray it with paint? what sort of paint and do you have any pics of what it looked like? I want to paint mine black too greyish beige is soo 90's!!

Have a look on German ebay as i found a guy with an ebay shop who made replacement liners in black vinyl for all Polos and they were circa 80 euros, so pretty cheap too.

DOn't really fancy taking all the windows out to fit a new one but i suppose i'll have to in the end anyway!
